Poetry For Poets: I Own This- Edition

Well hopefully you've read the last "Poetry for Poets", now here's the one I wanted to write, enjoy...

POETRY FOR POETS
(I own this- edition)

Poems
more organic than fertilizer
rooted in the **** of life
manure

Some grow wild
seeking their light
through a gnarled thicket
of images
and symbolism.
Ill watered
or sprayed with chemical defoliants
they strangle themselves,
few
managing to blossom.

Manicured
Poems thoughtfully precisely planted
to achieve optimum yield
banquet

			though occasionally
		poems require to be forged
	beaten into shape
like a horse shoe
with a few holes
	accurately placed
		ensuring they will be nailed
			to their purpose

Pruned
dead words and metaphors
selectively snipped away
stunning display

There are times when it’s best to live with your poetry
Cover yourself with its words until they stretch and become sloppery
For its comfort increases as the stanzas begin to fray
Patched elbows illuminating what you intend to say
And eventually you’ll have a poem to slip into by the fire
To savour with hot chocolate as it ignites your desire

Poems
more organic than fertilizer
flourish when tendered
with love

Premium Member Joy In the Emptiness

Where once a caterpillar ceased to crawl
  knit into a temporary tomb
a chrysalis shell now lies, empty, broken
  observed from above
by the butterfly, now set free

Where once a pine cone lay on the topsoil
  awaiting a crucible of fire
tested and tried, but not to perish
releasing its seeds by the wildfire's heat
a burnt shell now lies, empty, broken
  observed from above
by the new pine tree, with uplifted branches

Where once a tomb held a broken and torn body
  stricken, smitten, and afflicted
awaiting the promise from on high
the disciples gape at the rolled away stone
"He is not here, He is risen!"
saints and angels rejoice in God's master plan

There is joy in the emptiness

//certain pinecone varieties only release their seeds from the heat of a forest fire, ensuring the repopulation of trees after a devastating wildfire.//

Premium Member Poem of My Soul

In times of darkness,
When time is like raging seas,
my mum Is the lighthouse,
illuminating the skies,
guiding me to the shore.

There is an art to motherhood.
A paradise on earth,
with blessings of a priceless prayer.
Anyone can give birth,
but not everyone can be a mother,

I have written so many March musings,
simmering scribbles with alliterative metaphors,
but my mamma is the poem of my soul.

When the Devil would trick with his wicked games,
her angelic voice would bring clarity.
Reminding me that twisted thoughts will
only lead to a maze of uncertainty.

Each time death knocked at my door,
Her empathic energy would ease my pain.
Always told me if I didn't appreciate inner beauty;
the red of a rose would kill my soul.
How I'll be forever collecting thorns,
so I planted an abundance of flowers,
in kaleidoscopic colours, ensuring
Spring smells were soothing.

I remember when burdens became too heavy,
swift changes of life brought only sorrow,
grey clouds followed my every move
with black skies full of soulless stars.
There was a spring with deadly roses,
and countless colourless flowers.
I wondered if my heart would bloom this spring.
you were the perfect remedy,
like the mercy of rain upon petals,
who gave warmth after a cold night.

Words lost in a hustle and bustle of silence,
bloomed like lilacs and daffodils,
kissed by the sweetness of morning dew,
as colourful clouds in clementine hues,
greeted the sun in sapphire skies.

I always have regurgitating regrets,
when being strong, I never express enough,
how no woman alive could ever take your place.
In a world where love can be a hallucination,
people lose their affection,
let them change,
but you always stay the same.

Premium Member Kiss of Death

Yesterday, I soared with the wind
Today, death and I dance entwined in a slow waltz
Somber mood as bright lights shine above
Wagner in the background of semi-consciousness

Looking up at tubes, needles, wires and the reaper
Faces staring down, heads shaking in doubtful sadness
Onwards we roll, battle of the bacterium
Ensuring, I, wake only in hazy delirium

I reach out into emptiness
Grasping for the significance of it all
Falling into an existential black hole
Loveless, alone, is this to be my last stroll

Illusions and dreams creeping back into my soul
Hearing songbirds, will life have another go?
The winds roar once more inside my head
I stand up, with a smile, I am alive! Not dead!

Life has infected me with a fresh kiss

Premium Member The Dread of Farmer Fred

I went to visit Farmer Fred
Found him out in his wood shed
He was splitting up some oak
As I approached, he paused and spoke

“When I was young, I served my country and was willing to give my life for what I believed this country stood for.”
“Today I’d give my life to protect my family from what this country has become.”

I looked at Fred a bit askance
And he could see at a glance
That he should explain his new stance

‘We will bury you’ is coming to fruition.”
“Our country is becoming the very thing I fought against.”
“Pravda had nothing on the propagandist news in our nation.”
“Give it any name or label you will, government control over people has failed “the people” throughout human history.”
“I do not hold that government is evil, rather power which is corrupting and evil.”
“It has always been about power over others.”
“Kings, Emperors, Chancellors, Prime Ministers, and Presidents all abuse it.”
“Using government power to control others by controlling their means of earning and amassing wealth.”
“Feudalism, Socialism, Communism, Fascism, all place government at the top and make all people beholden to government.”
“Free market capitalism was the only exception.”
“Some played it better than others and acquired more wealth and wealth is power.”
“Thus, the role of government should be to check that power by ensuring the playing field and rules were applied equally.”
“All men are created equal, not all outcomes should be equal.”

I hold my hand up
Fred paused quite abrupt
With a pained look like please don’t interrupt

“I will simply say, we are no longer ‘The land of the free and home of the brave’ rather the land of the aggrieved and home of the knave.”

This was all he had to say
Fred dropped his ax and walked away

Premium Member Love Is Our Prize

Love Is Our Prize

Love is our prize, for we are true,
Thus beats my heart, so claim your eyes,
When in unison two souls coo
As night romantic blushes skies.

How stars twinkle, moon glistens highs,
When Venus grins, charming our view,
While she affirms, as passions rise;
Love is our prize, for we are true.

For long it’s been, just me and you,
Feeling blissful when dreams surmise:
Our love's real, meant for just few;
Thus beats my heart, so claim your eyes.

We rejoice kinship love implies
As fervid vibes of romance woo,
While hearts echo our cheerful cries
When in unison two souls coo.

Sharing secrets, we barely knew,
Grim past we shed held in disguise
And moving forth, vows we renew,
As night romantic blushes skies.

Love genuine will not surprise,
Hosting harmony, tuned anew,
Ensuring souls strum as allies;
When hearts synchronize, as we do,
Love is our prize.

Premium Member A World Without War

Peace and unity sing in harmony, echoing worldwide,
When acts of humility replace revenge-infused pride,
When narrowness of mind, naked ambitions subside,
When nations of goodwill, stand together side-by-side.

No inconsolable tears, flooding grief in mothers’ eyes,
No gloomy dawns rise, in smoke of war on sunny skies,
Clamors of hungry, displaced souls, no longer agonize;
No more shattered dreams, buried alive, to eulogize.

Nothingness ceases to vacate sanctity of self-esteem,
Children now rejoice, reminiscing in Cinderella-dream,
Vying bliss of tranquil, endearments of amity redeem,
Discarding ill will, shrieking from yore of vicious regime.

Hiroshima, Nagasaki—echoes of sad, remorseful past,
Resonate horror and shock, from memories aghast;
A world without war, a wish too far, yet close to heart,
Achievable when covenants of life don’t keep us apart.

Dignity of humanity ranks supreme, as priorities change,
Nations engage in educational and cultural exchange,
Farms and factories hum, ensuring hunger is eliminated
As peace and unity toll, from hearts and minds elated.

Far Away Land

They came from "farawayland"
to arms held open wide
welcomed without question by the "Man"

The starving and the homeless
can't begin to understand this
how could someone even do this to their clan

We try to feed and clothe them
give health and shelter freely
and we're just talking legal citizens

The influx of the immmigrants
and the millions of illegals
that have crossed our borders who knows even when

There are no jobs to give them
our health care's straining badly
some diseases that they bring could devastate

They try their best to hide here
while staying in the shadows
by scamming us they jeopardize our fate

Bleeding hearts help hide them
treated better than our Veterans
they snicker and they tell us that we're cruel

As our President stands proudly
ensuring he will protect them
America knows he plays us for the fool.....

Premium Member An Echo Through Time

An Echo Through Time

An echo through time follows all now in kind;
It’s the moment when poets find their rhyme!

Past-Present events give us a mirror to see from,
Of what Present Perfect events have now become.

Poets must write to truth what surely they mean;
With such wondrous verses the reader shall glean!

Writing with tone, tenor and syncopation is grand,
Giving poets that mellifluous effect desired by plan.

The echo quality of a great poem bespeaks its passion,
Whilst its literary panache shall always be in fashion!

An echo reflects a poem’s true resonance by intention;
Ensuring one’s mind shifts to an intellectual dimension.

Poets’ rendezvous with this echo through time is divine;
It helps us enshrine our thoughts now in continuous time!

Flamboyant Fall

Oh do move on, Summer - it's time for a change
I've so many seasonal chores to arrange!
Whilst you, my dear sister can laze in the sun,
For me there are serious tasks to be done.

I have to ensure that the hedgehogs remember
To stock up on food at the start of September.
Then trigger celestial cues as causation
For swallows' onset of long distance migration.

Blithe, frolicking squirrels must forfeit their play
To stash bereted nuts for the next rainy day.
And whilst I remember, the trees need a shake;
A gentle reminder their leaves to forsake.

A new coat of paint is applied in a rush,
A kiss from my lips makes the blackberries blush.
I’ll crisp up the air and leave everything stark,
Ensuring that nippy Jack Frost makes his mark.

Then tickle the prickles of sweet chestnut shells
Till, sides split with laughter, their treasure expels.
And last but not least, I've the pumpkins to swell
And harvest to gather, folk's hunger to quell.'

Flamboyant and frisky, in colourful dress
The glory of autumn can't fail to impress!

Tale of Creation

Throw open the door of your ear,
Across the void, words galloped there
Lifting the fortress of silence that where
Ensuring things came to bear

Out of darkness came light as land from water formed
From plant to animals, words transformed

Coming to the zenith of this invention;
Robes clay with life, reason and emotion
Enthroning him over nature’s nation
As king of this dominion
Telling this tale to unborn generation
Indeed, in the beginning was not the Word in action
Otherwise, who will ensure the commission?
No! In the Word was the beginning of creation.

Premium Member Oh Id's Nerve

oh, the nerve of my id
     struggling to climb mountains
          seeking secrets
               on a quest for meanings

passing all the beauty of life
     never stopping to smell flowers
          marvel at deer
enjoy the freshness of a babbling brook

in a quest for self-realization
     reaching the top
          seeing only myself
crying out for splendor left behind

oh, the nerve of my id
     ensuring isolation
          eliminating potential for happiness
               searching and only finding myself

too much introspection
mired in self-reflection
reaching no real destination

Premium Member Sunflowers

Stems that stretch out to reach warmth
Undulating in a dewy field
Nodding approval to passersby
Flowers that stand out, boasting huge blooms
Leaving lasting impressions
Our hearts keep these memories
When they fade in autumn’s chill
Each bloom scatters seeds
Replenishing the specie and ensuring their return when
Summer beckons once more

I Am Ghost

I think, therefore I am,
And of what I think
Becomes me out of thought,
Momentarily, memories make
More mad moments of me,
Be it reality of fantasy?
Physical or Metaphysical?
My paradox is my persona

Brain fires random impulses
From dead end to dead end,
Unless thought becomes abnormal,
There alone lies the hidden bridge,
Succumb to human limitations
Yet accept thought as immortal,
A constantly pondering organ
Ensuring unfinished business

Thus, ensuring eternal life
Through verse and voice,
lascivious pursuit of knowledge,
And expeditious conversations,
Decreasing the prudent choices,
Increasing importance of mankind,
Show my brother to know myself,
Teach I, personal and universal

Haunting descendants of yesterday
With chains formed out of intellect,
Linking type writers and computers,
segregated and integrated minds,
and radio to television, all is all,
One is all, all is one, we are all one,
Thus ancestors never die
Nor do children grow old

Pictures become mirrors,
mirrors become gateways,
and gateways become infinite,
Appearing in places of proximity
to those in need of certain lessons,
As they share the experience,
Creating the desired domino effect
amongst both old and young

Groans of disappointment echo
for those who fail to evolve
and those with no desire to do so,
Harrowing screams of spirits
who embrace the role of educators,
Wounded souls they soon become
as civilization slowly falls to failure
by ignoring text, dreams, and elders

Still, new souls are born
as the dying discover the lesson,
Becoming burdened by brilliance,
Brilliance that was never shared,
Yet the lesson must be learned
by the living loved ones,
As I listen for the first time,
Understanding noise of the night

The spirits speak slowly,
The world willingly whispers,
I am you, you are me,
We are I and I am we,
Repeating the words nightly,
Among other lessons of life,
Thinking of them, as we live,
We can say, they are us,
And for a moment, I am ghost.

Premium Member Sixteen To Sixty

From sixteen to sixty you have loved me
I have loved you
Destined to share this life together
A blessed fulfilled life… tried and true!

Together we have grown into adulthood
A loyal team side by side
Conquered all life handed us
Each other’s support and guide

We have agreed and disagreed
Gained life knowledge along the way
Through all of these life’s moments
Side by side we constantly stayed

Humour and laughter a daily occurrence
Playfulness, fun and silly times
Constantly making each other laugh
Our minds and spirits aligned

I could never imagine life with another
Or my life ever without you
Even just the thought of you not in my life
Generates anguish through and through

Thankyou for loving me so well
Always ensuring I am happy and safe
Side by side with you in this lifetime
Will forever be my place…
