Best Dusting Poems
Rays of morning sun whisper through
The window’s pane, stressing the gentle
Flecks of life’s dancing dust, fragments
Of soothing breathes, moving hopefully
Through the light’s loving touch, sighing
With compassion, kindness, rustling
Softly, beckoning for music to paint
The sincerity of joy discovered within
One who knows the secret silence
Drifting cheerfully through the air
Creating a scene of whimsical inspiration
That soothes hearts by lifting up
Souls in praise to One who waves
Jubilantly through the caress of sunlight
Filling the dawn with miracles of insight
Sighing with kindness that mourns
The disregard for sprinkles of death
Sharing their melancholy fate with us
Who long to know such grace flowing
Through our spirits in colors of splendor
Which arise from the flames of one who
Waits out the beams and stokes the fire
Of intimacy with Him who knows life
Is built on these playful pieces of earth
Scattering rumors of prayers and love
Through the heart who awakens faith
In the Son who created this fluid grace

The top shelves required dusting, so
I looked for my stool high and low.
No luck--but a chair
would do. Then up there
I cleaned that top shelf. It did glow.
My cleaning cloths fell to the floor.
I had to get down to find more.
I dressed as I did
because my man Sid
was watching. Life's never a bore!

Day in Day out the dust consumes the air
Upstairs it runs rampant through the fan I must declare
Sneezing is the penchant of the day
The dust always settles while we are away
It never comes to mind that it should be dusted
Not even the service can be trusted, as they
Gallivant through their duties, one day to be busted

In the dusting of springtime,
sweet scented thoughts of yesterday
come as star jasmine starts to climb
and in the breeze I see it sway.
I recall the scent of rose,
of lilac and the trumpet vine -
their fragrance wafting to my nose -
becoming soon a scent divine
attracting bees and butterflies
to my mom’s lovely garden spot.
Pappi fluff drifted to the skies,
scattering seeds, which were a lot!
The fruit this fluffy dust would bring
were dandelions of our spring.

I'm dusting to rock n' roll music,
my hips are swaying to the beat,
the radio is turned on louder
as I shuffle my feet.
I'm dusting to rock n' roll music,
singing at the top of my voice,
windows are opened and the
neighbors don't have a choice.
I'm dusting to rock n' roll music,
tossing the rag into the air,
pretending my family is an
audience at the state fair.
I'm dusting to rock n' roll music,
till the entire house glows,
from light fixtures to cookie jars,
the music and Pledge flows.

I never knew this is what it was called until it
Happened to me
In public.
At first it was traumatic
As it came out bellowing like a banshee
And the aromatic bouquet wasn't flowering it
Was a catastrophe.
Rotten egg smell is atomic!
I never knew this is what it was called until it
Happened to me
In public
There was every one staring at me as if I had
Committed murder in the first degree
Over something that is erratic
And the body does automatic
I sat down on the closet bench I laughed
Until the tears rolled down my face as I was
Catching my breath my grandson wondered
If I was alright. I said I don't think my heart has
Felt this free. It is time to finish my shopping
Before they decide to charge me with dispersing
Atomic energy.
I never knew this is what it was called until it
Happened to me
In public.

Spring Dusting
Though many years have flown with time
Since we met that lovely Spring day
In the dusting of the Springtime
Come scented thoughts of yesterday.
Doing the annual Spring clean
I recall floret adorned trees
Alike watching a silver screen
I glimpse blossom dance o’er the breeze.
Infusing air with sweet perfume
Enhancing the start of romance
That day was made for love to bloom
Our magic began at first glance.
My heart soars as high as the moon
Whilst I am dusting room by room.

The game
Squashed his frame
Socks tainted
Carved out plain
But the road map was tame
Animals replete
With zoo keeper seed
From marsupial greed
A black out rabbit hole
Concealed the frrozen deals
Pincers chopping dollar backs
Red with collar grabs
Soapy suds and beer
The watery love endeared
To carry a child burden
For the sake of namesake
Dust off the the boot heel kickers
And fly kites with cotton pickers

The pastor whispers ashes to ashes- dust to dust
like a pilot says, there'll be a little turbulence in the bus
but in the throng there's ripples of panic and madness
people spitting up grit with every quivering breath.
Now its a game to see who can hold it together
while beating back the momentum of death...
as the plane rocks back and forth
as the pastor stumbles over the word,
everyone's dusting off a soothing prayer
while looking down into the throat of the earth.

I kissed the bed bye
With a dusty blipping lip
I couldn’t dust off with water
For dusting the dust off my body
Means to be in love with night
Cold chilling breeze in “Ibadan”.
With dust all over me
Woke up only to yawn of dust
With it still casing me all over
I sneeze and breathe of it endlessly.
Why pretending to dusting the dust?
For everywhere is full of dust.
Our road is the king of dust
We eat and drink of it . . . dust
Nose and mind of all full of dust
We live in the kingdom made off dust.
When is it of a day when the road
Will be dusted off its dust?
When it shall vamoose off our rooms
When it shall zoom off our kingdom
Its time to dust them off our kingdom
The few ruling cabals dusting hunger on us
Blinking with bleak shall our future be no more
For we shall dust off fear and dust them off . . .

I pulled the cold and old electric Glarry piano
out the closet and make happy music again;
this one was the sensational joy of Claudio,
he played it until he was tired and laid down!
The first thing he'd do is to attune to his feeling,
he'd sit down and play the Fifth of Bethoven;
nothing ever bothered him, he kept on going:
perfection wasn't something hard to attain!
Dusting off these piano keys with a dampened rag,
I treat it gently, leaving no visible smears but shine;
oh, an attempt to play it incites temptation to brag!
Would nostalgia be emotional and utterly sublime?
This piano was wrapped for twenty years in a white sheet,
ignored and forgotten by me to deny my sorrow until now;
my music was heard two blocks away, it delighted Juliet:
she gladly came around, applauded and cried somehow!
Dusting off these piano keys once flicked by fingers that loved life,
this idle mind will create new melodies to whisk away all boredom;
I have endured enough desolation, don't I desperately need freedom
to break away from a long winter with days without warm sunshine?

An Edvard Munch reproduction hangs demurely,
yet with a blushing come-hither
disclosing/unclothing.
A Van Gogh print
hovers near her like a sad and troubled lodger.
I sense his self-inflicted wound itching
under the bandages.
Flick goes the duster,
for a moment the diaphanous drape
covering Munch’s semi-naked girl flies away.
In his self-portrait, for an instant
Van Gogh’s lost ear returns.
I am putting the world to rights,
or maybe just my world.
Not correcting, just moving the artwork along
to where it was going, or should have not gone to
before it was set forever inside a jailhouse frame.

It starts with a gentle breeze
...slowly, quietly winding down
Kissing and caressing the trees
...spiraling through branches
Finally brushing the pale petals
...sweeping them off in a flurry
Catching two furiously entwined
...in a whirlwind of scented pink

Drawing near to the end of May
(The month devoted to Mary)
Sweet-scented thoughts of yesterday
Immerse me in books! I tarry...
From the Spring-cleaning I should do
And progressing with my job search
Just so many books to read through!
And I love spending time at church
I made apple-cinnamon cake
With a dusting of cinnamon
Is avoiding chores a mistake?
Forgoing house-dusting, a sin?
Simple pleasures can't be a crime
In the dusting of the Springtime! :)

In the dusting of the springtime,
sweet scented thoughts of yesterday
ring melodiously like chimes
and again, preluding my way…
As I reminisce all sweet scents,
gentle breeze caresses my hair
like when the star jasmines, hyacinths,
gardenia and phlox filled the air.
When butterflies hovered with bees,
praising bright roses and tulips,
my honeybabe gave my first kiss-
great memories, so nice to keep.
Blooming gifts, birds…all spring love songs
With wistful thoughts, my heart belongs.
