Best Denigrate Poems
Take from me that which you will
Those things that I possess
Strip from me the trinkets
That speak of my success
Look at me with jaundiced eye
With disdain on your face
Treat me as subordinate
Keep me in my place
Speak to me with vitriol
Mock my point of view
Contradict my every word
Their meaning misconstrue
I can overlook these things
As you strive to denigrate
Because the measure of a man
Is forgiving those who hate

"Thursday’s Windows"
the view
from the other side
open wide
watching
other stories
unfold
write their worlds
upside down
their concert
sung to mirrors
none fair of face
and most,
far to go
(LadyLabyrinth / 2023)
“Monday's child is fair of face,
Tuesday's child is full of grace.
Wednesday's child is full of woe,
Thursday's child has far to go.
Friday's child is loving and giving,
Saturday's child works hard for a living.
And the child born on the Sabbath day
Is bonny and blithe, good and gay.”
"The Light and the Dark of it. Some people will go to extraordinary measures for redemption. Some people go to extraordinary lengths for Love. Some will call it courage. Others will denigrate the truth of the fall in delivery as foolish. There are benefits to falling, to the breaking: beginning, middle, end. If not the whole, you cannot see but a part of yourself in others, then there is something vitally humane missing in you. No matter how clean and worthy you deem yourself. You are Godless."

My car was parked beneath a tree,
More gingkoish than oaken;
I never noticed birds a’perched,
Yet each one left a token.
The windshield was opaquely masked;
The roof and sides were splattered.
They missed the turned-in mirror,
Though that hardly even mattered.
You really had to give them props;
They surely were effective
In doing such a thorough job –
I held off my invective.
We call somebody bird-brain
When we denigrate their smarts,
But mischief made of droppings
Proves their humor’s off the charts!

Owl..' Owl..? Dumpty had just turned back to resume speaking, yet when he looked the
bird was not to be seen Now where did that Owl go?? Then Dumpty looked down..!
there full stretch and upon its back lay the poor Owl..! What could he do..?? as he was
thinking just that thought he ran 3 times round the fallen Owls form in sheer panic..!
then out of the corner of his eye; he saw the dish..! Water he thought! and grabbed the dish..' then just to be on the safe side he picked up the spoon,! he rushed over to an old
wooden pail and dipped the dish under the water. he ran back and threw it onto the Owl it
took seven attempts before the Owl suddenly shook its head and staggered onto its feet
steady on dear Owl said Dumpty as it swayed on the spot..' Oh said the Owl how awful..'
( a square word ) Its no good at all, Excuse me but would you mind if I help you to sit
on that low branch over there,,' Dumpty said He guided the owl across and it sat down
ruffling its feathers.! Do you mind dear Owl if I make so bold in asking, what Egg-sactly
is a (square word?) It is a most uncouth array of words, that humans use to denigrate others
said the Owl..' Its not a thing nursery rhyme characters should even know of; they cheapen
peoples understanding of each other Dumpty, Oh what a terrible pass we have come to..!
( square words ) Oh how much damage they can cause..! And what a wrong thing to do to
link it to the sweet brave cat...' why he even travelled to London to see the Queen and they
still know him by that name there now, as a matter of fact I'll bet they still have a chair with
his name on it..' this will not do I shall fight to have his name recognised as it always has been
and he is certainly not a has been..! It is his by former precedent; as in (pussesion) is 9 tenths
of the law..!

God is wonderful, God is great
Tens of thousands of years ago, people were scared of the dark
So they worshipped the sacred sun, the moon and even a spark
God is based on fear, God is in self
God is an illusion, he might be an elf
As people started to live together and share their lives
Each working for a common cause men children and wives
God is law, God is good
God is an illusion, from childhood
The church took the power and made Jesus great
All designed to control people's fate
God is power, God is to blame
God is an illusion, there is no shame
People would preach the bible kuran and other ideas
Brain-washing their children with their verbal diarrhoea
God is words, God is read out loud
God is an illusion, not to be bowed
As religions met one another, there was conflict wraith
Wars started, each with God on their side of faith
God is many, God is contradictory
God is an illusion, he wants victory
We are all allowed religious freedom, even is it is nonsense
We can say what we believe but not denigrate another's concept
God is a virus of the brain, God is a game
God is an illusion, just a name
The world has opened up to a new age with communication rife
The foundations of religions are now in strife
God is cyber, God is shared
God is an illusion, laid out bared
The church is losing its power and soon will marry gays
As logic looks more closely at the words the bibles say
God is false, God is true
God is everything, God is nothing
God is nowhere, God is everywhere
God is man, God is woman
God is transsexual, God is bisexual
God is here, God is there
God only exists in your head, but he is really dead
God is what we don't understand, in this great big land
God will never be ever seen, he is just a meme
God will never disappear, as he is based on fear
God is wonderful, God is great
God is an illusion, made-up mate
God is wonderful, God is great
God is an illusion, made-up mate

Lyric
Dark to black and beaten skin to living bone.
Chosen by name and marked by birth.
You hang me, cajole me and yellow badge me.
You segregate, strip and stick me. Jackboot,
shoot and gas me, but most of all you humiliate
me. You denigrate my living soul
A nation of teutons, with stiff arms and
hearts fired with ice and faux compassioned
isolation. You, who possess the freedom to hate
without reproach are abhorred, like the
craven lice you name me to be
Now, free from your chains, I rise up. And,
without trial, I beat you with relish and hang you
with my revenge-filled heart. Is this not a
reasonable crime? Will my peers turn away an
understandable eye? Where does my revenge end
and your piety-ridden justice begin?
You, sat in your smug-filled homes, wearing your
warm coats and smoking your dollar-cancered cigars,
eating your belly-filling beliefs. Drinking with your
full-sized families while reading through your
victory-fogged lenses.
I am hungry and I shall be fed. But I; I shall feed upon
dead beliefs and drink without a full-sized family.

Free verse
A little smile delights my soul
A little money appreciates my life
A little love achieves my goal
A little care flatters my wife
Strengthening my resolve to perform better
Duties and responsibilities I bear
In my role as family pace and trend setter
In spite of mundane outfit and suit I wear
As through lifetime I educate siblings
Endeavouring to develop their potential
To scale heights, to break through glass ceilings
Beyond the conventional and the unintentional
As I elect and select to reflect on reasons why
At crossroads complications sometimes arise
To conflate faith and pride in minds of the lie
Lost in a labyrinth where to no surprise
Confusion and division estrange sinners from thinners
In the midst of splitting hairs and spreading fears
Among the lost sheep who deem it unfit to hobnob with cleaners
Immersed in verses of gossip as on my face tears
Roll down, fall on my chest in my quest
Into well intended missions that fall by the wayside
Too low for zero as I invest efforts to test
Waters in altars of misconception and prejudice propelled by personal pride
Gone too far to dilute and denigrate the sanctity
The salvation mission entails among fishers of men
Who appreciate Jesus didn’t die on the cross to pronounce sinners guilty
But to save humankind and I from the odious omen
Misguided human lips with little knowledge utter
As they wallow in a sea of benighted bigotry
Where they play God and pronounce themselves better than the sinner in the gutter
Who pleads at the feet of Jesus to send her providential poetry
To open human eyes to tenets Christianity holds dear
Not because I say so or I should denounce the new millennium Pharisee
Whose grasp of the biblical truth swims in turbid unclear
Seas of ignorance where the blind and the benighted can’t see
Limitations and diminutions brought about by little knowledge
Raised to a puny pedestal
Wreaks havoc as it conflates sewage and sacrilege
To decelerate a hallowed harvest and cause it to stall.

Free verse
If you’re living your life with a jealous wife,
And you are under her spell,
When a minute late well your weekly fate,
Is twenty-four seven in hell.
You will never find, just one peace of mind,
Unless there’s a friendly bar,
Even then you’ll groan when you hear the phone…
She’ll be looking for where you are.
I’ve been accused and I’ve been abused,
For imaginary fun that I’ve had,
I am her pet hate, and she’ll denigrate
To the point of overly mad,
Her deep desire is to stoke the fire,
Declaring that I am a liar,
When she takes note of a hair on my coat,
Asserting me into the mire.
For she’ll cause a scene on where I have been,
And who was I cheating with?
So I got to the state, I’d retaliate…
Her thoughts are a terrible myth.
But even though, her conjecture will grow
Downgrading the lot of us men,
Then she will swear, when she can’t find a hair,
That I’m dating bald women again.

Let us celebrate
This is not time to denigrate
Nigerians rise and jubilate
Cause we are poised to rethink and meditate
Let us roll out the drums
This is not the time to keep mum
Let the air be filled with fun
To drown the wailings and guns
Democracy has come to stay in Nigeria history
Let us celebrate a hard- won victory
A milestone in the country's trajectory
Prophets of doom remain confounded and desultory
Nigeria the hope of the black race
Rise up and keep the pace
Exterminate corruption without trace
And give the country a new face
You are destined for Leadership
A rallying point for African Fellowship
Do not be deterred by the present hardship
From claiming your divine kingship

The Color Blue
© Ben Burton
The press is pushing hard
Promoting racial animus
Creating a canard
Like Rosa Parks had missed the bus
The first black President
Who should have made ol' Martin proud
Instead, it came to this
Obama cannot shut his mouth
When color is involved
He opens up and plows right in
The only thing resolved
His pure disdain for white-skinned men
And now we've reached the point
The tipping point of sanity
When inmates from the joint
Are more revered than the police
For socialism feeds
On being arrogant and smug
Emotional deceit
Promoting hate disguised as love
They've managed to create
A straw man of young Michael Brown
Speak truth, you denigrate
Excuse to loot and burn 'em down
For Brown was black, not white
Unarmed, but shot at least six times
Yet who began the fight?
Don't shoot, hands up, scam alibi
So now the leftist loons
Handcuff those who protect and serve
The cops had best not shoot
No matter if it is deserved
But therein lies the rub
What is a lawman sworn to do?
Inside his thankless club
There's just one color, it is blue

Mandela In You
I scanned into your entire writ
I perceived an unremitting wit;
There’s a Mandela in You,
Oozing from your daring script;
Loaded with a spirit of sacrifice
To eradicate mundane malice
There’s a Mandela in You,
That resonates in your artifice!
A Fighter for Mankind’s thrall,
Equality for gender and for all
There’s a Mandela in You
Reprimanding: Divided We Fall!
Peace is in your daring hand
Which you staunchly defend
For, Mandela in You says
“No to Civil Wars in our Land!”
Women also need their space
Enough to powder their face
There’s a Mandela in You
Lending impetus to their pace!
Antipathy, aloud do denigrate
Which Warmongers do initiate
There’s a Mandela in You,
With a smile that doesn’t fail;
It intones when Spirit is weary
Shining when the Sky is dreary
There’s a Mandela in You
Painting Blue the Sky so bleary!
Write, write, your mantra write
Let revulsion be in your write
For, there’s a Mandela in You
Pleading for Humanity to Unite!
Dedicated to Zimbabwean Poet, Wilson Mapfumo upon being inspired by his Poem: Cry Africa.

Breathe Mutiny
Shackle my hands so I cannot write.
My words will still put up a fight.
If ideas offend you, close the book.
If you seek the truth take a closer look.
Try all you can to put me down.
You will end up looking like the clown.
My verse is the voice and ear to my pain,
metaphors and similes in haunting refrain.
Lock me out the race. Shame and denigrate me.
My thoughts will still breathe mutiny.

Money,in search of you
Traitor appears
Either to kill
Or denigrate
The trustworthy gets less
The sycophant demagogically gets more
The former becomes worse
The later becomes blessed
Money, your raison d'etre
Misinterpreted by your interpreter
Your searcher on do-or-die
In your search
Money,you are hijacked
By the black baron
To rule the innocent
To suppressed the oppressed
In search of you
Sycophancy adopted
Decency aborted
Inconsistency applied
But, consistency implied
Money, your whitish regalia
Turned blackish in nature
Stained with debris
By your researcher
Your searcher, in existence
Becomes asset
But in eternity
Becomes inordinate bad count.

BRIEF BELIEF
I no longer believe in believing
I do, however, believe in grieving
I cannot dodge the grievousness of grief
And that’s why I don’t believe in belief
I don’t believe in belief anymore
For me believing has become a bore
It’s a chore I no longer participate in
And each belief only made me anticipate sin
It’s a sin what believing has done to me
I once believed in a lover who would run to me
Instead they come and then run right past me
And that’s why I find believing so ghastly
Misbegotten belief was there to naughtily denigrate me
And believing was born only to haughtily hate me
It harbors in its heart a hatred that causes palpable pain
Ergo I no longer wait to see what belief will ordain
So don’t ask me to believe in hopes or dreams
Because believe me, belief is not what it seems
My only certainty is that love is adept at deceiving
And that’s why I don’t believe in believing

A mouse you say
As if to denigrate my worth
make of me something small.
Knowing nothing of my heart,
my will, my daring, my courage.
You see me as weak.
Have you ever risked all
To bring food to your family?
Outrun a snarling barn cat?
Stealthily snatched the cheese
from the springing death of a mouse trap?”
You know not the trepidations
I wrestle with, feel not the fears
I overcome, hear not the song
within my soul. And yet
you judge me
not knowing that I
am one helluva mouse.
