Premium Member She Is Not Defined By Poetry Alone

She is not defined by poetry alone
born a dreamer in a realist family of drones
they made her adept, at many things ;
Patchwork designs of beauty she did make
with quilted fingers of youth and vigorous eye
Lattice thoughts that mounted to the sky
were crushed by patriarchal smudges
still, she balanced the beam and walked
on a tightrope everyday singing out her song
 of sweet belong ;
Dipping her tears in the quiet lake of solitude.
she heard the soul quake "Bring it home girl "
and so she did. Picking up her favorite pen
she hid in her room and practiced her
signature until it flourished without grit.
No she is not defined by poetry alone
but, she sure knows how to bring it home.

Premium Member You Are Not Defined By- Another's Perception

You once told that I was beautiful
Later on,after kids and weight gain
Your perception of me began to alter
You didn't look at me with loving eyes
I had changed in your eyes…….
You said I had repulsed you
For years I put up with your abuse
Your vicious words had hurt me deeply
I believed your every word, I loved you so
I fell into a deep dark world of depression
But one day I had somehow seen the light
I realized that beauty comes from within
You had put me in a prison of abuse
You were a warden of pain and insult
I am no longer your prisoner
Your perception of me doesn't matter
Only mines and mines alone does
Your hurtful words can not and will not
Define me because I am now totally free

Enemies Defined

Valiant we stand over enemies defined
The lives we laid down weigh heavy on our minds

Years of defiance, hatred and pain
The countless dead like drops of rain

Death and destruction, toil and despair
Fear from above as bombs fall through the air

War is defined as living in hell
to settle misgivings to which were compelled

Casualties of war, refugees in flight
Mothers embrace children as they cry in the night

War is a festering disease with nary a cure
Peace is a blessing we all can endure

let hatred end and peace reign supreme
before the world as we know it becomes only a dream

Defined By X, Y, Not Z

I won’t say I’ve always known
but always, something was wrong
defined by a chromosome
defined by what they put on

to be “me” is alien
that’s if they let “me” be me
they say I’m not who I am
they tell me what to believe

imagine not knowing “you”?
no clothes, these are just costumes
too scared to speak, I stay mute
for hatred has a voice too

Love Defined

Love Defined

You say you want to be with me
Then these truths you must know
Because, my love, you have to see
It’s more than the feeling we show

True Love does not want to control
It, instead, will yield and submit
From deep within the very soul
Where the flame of love stays lit

To me, it should always be you first
And you should put me first today
Though sometimes we hunger and thirst
I will show you the most excellent way

Love will wait as long as it takes
And return only kindness despite all
Contented in itself, and what it makes
It lives without the prideful fall

Love cannot disrespect you or me
And will never insist on having its way
Neither will it react wrathfully
It will forget the wrong of yesterday

Love does not exist in wicked deeds
But will flourish in what’s pure
It guards our hearts as delicate seeds
Ever faithful, it is always sure

Love is hope when we don’t see it
It stays the course when we fall
And will carry us out of the pit
Giving awesome joy to us all

Many have said it really hurts so
Though in truth that love is not real
For if it’’s true love, you’ll always know
It will be so much more than you feel

It is our imperfections, so hard to admit
That will cause love to take the blame
For love, perfect and pure, will never quit
It is us that want to make love a game

Premium Member How You Are Defined

You are not defined by just your age, so don’t use it
as an excuse for not doing what you really want to do.

You are not defined by just your gender.
It’s an important distinction whether you are male or female,
but in many aspects of life,
you must expect and demand equality.

You are not defined by just the color
of your skin, hair, and eyes.
Appreciate your beautiful colors,
whatever they may be, and do not judge others
whose colors are different from your own.

You are not defined by your family’s reputation
or past mistakes you have made. Love yourself and know
it’s in your power to change bad habits,
improve yourself and grow your talents.

You are so much more than all the aforementioned things.
God’s strength is in your soul’s DNA,
for you are a child of the Creator, and He is Love;
therefore, you are ultimately defined by Him, and
by how you treat your fellow man.

Premium Member I Am Not Defined By My Birth

I am not defined by the life I lead
I live like a puppet, dancing to the tunes
Of my family, my society and even that of my religion!

But then, when I am me, in my own company,
Faced with myself in the mirror of my bedroom,
I do ask myself whether I shall tell them all,
About who I really am!

The real me is a mystical water bubble
Having flown way off its set limits
As my keeper was trying to keep me happy
Even if he was way too busy with his toils
There, in some world known as the one fairer!

I am lost, in a world which does not belong to me
I am a child of the skies,
Soothed only by the fact that I have found my keeper
In human form, even if I die each time I talk to him
About everything else other than the bond which ties us!

I am not defined by being human,
I remain a celestial being, trapped in a human body,
In a world where nothing soothes me, except for that Love!

Premium Member Defined With Time

They tell a story,
these imperfections.
Every wrinkle's
an emotion sealed
by routine feedback.

Indents and scars
were carved with care.
Mistakes were made,
but you were spared.

Calluses
show your strength
through tough times.

Each crease
defines

you.

Premium Member Defined By Time

Memories mark moments of time, passing like a carousel
A bitter day in January Challenger exploded
Hopes for the future of our space program quickly eroded
Recalling the fate of the first teacher in space, on sadness dwell

On a November day in Dallas, nineteen sixty-three
Camelot dreams collided with bullets, a president died
Who’ll forget where they were when they heard the news and sadly cried
Benchmarks, dates circled on calendars, time passes as we grieve

Two thousand and one an attack befell New York’s twin towers
Were you one of many who watched the second tower fall?
Have you wished to travel back in time and these events forestall?
Cycles of life and death recorded, buds that bloom black flowers

Such are the transcripts documented in every human heart
Moments in time that change the course of history as we know it
Reminders of tragic events and acts that mankind commits
In the cyclical sense, they’re but slivers of a vast pie chart

Premium Member Perfection Defined

Her essence is that of an angel
Her beauty borders divine
Her thoughts run as deep as an ocean
Perfection innately defined

Her lips are like rose pedal gumdrops
Her smile just as soft as her skin
Her figure is full and amazing
Her eyes are where beauty begins

Her heart shares the warmth of an ember
Her words all thoughtful and kind
Her touch seems to always send shivers
Perfection is finally defined
