Best Cloud Covered Poems
Her trembling twilight
dims with streaking purple tears
bruised by youthful years of bleeding pain
hurting but never hugged—
locked in arms of atmosphere’s apathy
that smeared with fiendish fingers
a contusing plum palette
across any hope in her godforsaken horizon—
this sorrowful songbird
who sings with the shattered purity
of violin strains falling from Heaven
finds her bemoaning musical notes adrift—
lost on breezy deaf days
as she is once again thrown down
from the self-serving skyscape
by the hateful hands of wildcat winds.
In the deep inkwell
of lullaby-less lonely nights
where never a tender nursery rhyme
has ever set her free
are memories scribed of storm-battered days
and weighing heavily on Libra’s scales
are the injustices
of dreams she will never live
nor flights of fancy she will never take
as her sire of solar scorch and temper flare
—a warpath warrior against her springtime
sleeps soundly on a bloated bed
over-stuffed with betrayal and broken promises
while her merciless maternal moon—
distant and cloud covered
does not bother to wander the coal haze
with a lantern’s sharp beam
to cut through stranglehold-folds of darkness
to cast a light upon; to rescue her fractured form—
an angel beckons as breath and beat fade
her guardian as she passes through Earth's shadow
beyond the coldness of mother-moon's umbra
following to where warm sugar-stars soprano sing.
Tonight— a stricken sparrow
folds her fledgling wings never to fly again…
will land or air ever miss her?

Wooden floor's relief
Cooling fevered feet
Pace, bare, in blackness
As tranquil raindrops
Softens prickly nerves
Cloud covered stars
Still shine, behind
Glowing without
Doubt's permission
To find them
Just look up
Hope sees through
The dark
Like the
Moon.

Diminished Hexaverse
The summer sun has gone into hiding
leaving us with these cloud covered skies.
The west bound breeze is cold and damp.
Happy moods are dampened too.
Clouds equal depression
as sun equals joy.
Gone just one day,
I miss it.
Come back
sun.

Abandoned sunsets slip past fingertips
As intrepid sagas chart darkness grown
In cloud covered stars guiding homeward ships
Destined for cacophonous fates unknown
Beyond dawn's memories of beauties flown
And captured under weighted thunder's swing
Insomnia's pen collects colored string
Lacing blue moons where sorrel skies unfold
Crooked circles tracing her crippled king
Only poets can know the lines untold

"Houdini Sleeps"
Somewhere in the dark night
all her words flew in scattered fright
like a skyful of black ink in white cloud covered plight
all murdered crows,
in sleepless vast flight.
Confederate ghost always close, but never seen,
she walks toward him
through her walled up dreams.
Writing was like music to her.
High notes. Low notes. Hidden keys.
She thought about tattoos.
Hers were silent. Her words and images
were on the tip of her tongue.
Hidden Key.
Houdini. Sleeps.

Mountains rushing towards the heavens
Grass so green it hurts your eyes
When the sun breaks through to light it
From the grey cloud covered sky
Sandy beaches free from clutter
Waiting at the mountains feet
Shifting with the waves that wash them
To yet some other mountain meet
See the rushes as they grow now
At the bottom of the hill
Hear the brook a gently bubbling
Always running never still
Smell the mountain air so sweet
On the breeze as it is blown
Into every crack and crevice
Through the trees now hear it moan
Watch the stars light up the heavens
Like a million fairy lights
Hear the thunder as it booms out
Making us to cuddle tight
Now give thanks unto your Maker
For this land beauteous to see
And thanks for having all our senses
To let us all this beauty see

Prisoner
BY HEROLD OSMOND OWOSEB
I dare not say that I am innocent for I am not
I have committed a crime
But my delinquency is contrary to felony
I have committed a crime of goodwill
My transgression may not require the compensation of a custodial sentence
But I deem it necessary to be jailed
Furthermore, I implore thee to let me hang by the tree
For I find no a reason to walk any longer
For too long I have carried the burden
Too long I have held on to this love
I have loved uncontrollably
My whole heart I have given unto thee
Though I am dubious of thy thoughts
I ponder on what to do
Locking the door is painful
But no longer can I wait, for a shooting star on a cloud-covered sky

Paranormal...
High amid the mountain ranges wherein the rivers flow
Winding through and aneath the timberlines of life
Cascading over its edge these currents unto their mist!?
As apparitions in broken dreams this spectrums darkened hues
Impeded by the rays of a cloud covered day
Although it was not always this way; ghost...
Remembering when we were young and could walk and see beyond
These metaphoric waters and the dust that, buried the sun?!
Catching shooting stars still dancing inside our innocent eyes
Laughter and love and awe held its breath
Breathing pure crystal dreams like flowing rivers
Untainted; cascading light from above the timberlines of life
This colourful vibrant mist, gathering in a thundering voice as one!?
Paranormal...

Once dragons flew freely in the skies
Magic ruled the earth
We lived in castles in the air
Hearts filled with love and joy
Causing us to be as one--
We learned from dragons
It is all right to fly
To distant lands across the roiling sea--
Above cloud covered lands we flew
On magic dragon ships
To the mountains of the moon-
Entering lands of mysterious night
Seeking that elusive light--
Our dragons breathed holy fire
Lighting caves hidden in the dark
Bringing warmth and love to earth…
A virgin land appeared before our eyes
Pristine forests, crystal waters--
Our dragons led the way
Forging pathways to the sea
Raising spires to the sun-
Abundance filled our prospering lives-
Until one day our Dragons magic faded
The land cried out
Our castles crumbled
The holy fire we had brought
Extinguished-
The caves were dark again –

Blank verse
Poor little Moon King
trapped inside a gilded cage
within the marble prison walls
the cage is painted
and the marble held up with balsa wood
a fake fairy-tale façade
castles in the clouds
ladies in classical poses
battles never won
nor even fought
locked in frozen frescos
as trapped as the poor little Moon King
forever
insulated from the cruel sisters
modernity & society
having anything you want
except what you really need
the sisters cannot let you bare
flesh and soul
crying to sleep
in the silken cradle
an empty shell
an unnatural fondness forbidden
yet tasted behind the closed door
a self-deluded love lost among luxuries
Oh Ludwig how you wished so hard
the sun would shine
on your chivalric dreams
but
alone lamenting at the balustrade
you are the Moon King
forever in plaster and paint
cloud-covered
out shined
hag-ridden highness
hiding behind a pile of stones and pretty
colours
poor little Moon King

He asks me often
Why I did not write poems
When I fell in love with him
Dazed under your spell
I sure lost my footing like
A ball rolling down a slope
Words abandoned me
A thick cloud covered my brain
You think insane folks can write?
I’m sorry, he said
A klutz I am to forget
All things wrong always my fault

Choka
I watched your fish dance
From under my hat brim
Cloud covered and dim
While on your boat
You would float
Waiting for the chance
Of a bending pole
When one flickered
I giggled and snickered
Watching you jump for joy
Like a young boy
At peace was your soul
And all at once I understood
Your remembrance of boyhood
The echoes of the wake
The magic between you
The fish and the lake

Rhyme
Sky color of death
high wind blows without a howl
destination known.
As our day turns from bright to unwelcome dark grey
cold, heavy rain starts to lash earths crust so forceful
startled then extreme fear felt in a flash so unexpected
visually experiencing this cloud to ground lightening
stroke after stroke creating frightening yet wonderful
patterns against that uninviting evil cloud covered sky
without any warning our sky illuminated by spikes of
blinding light crawling from horizon to horizon ,
we were encountering this natural extravaganza,
an amazing unreserved event, fearful though beautiful.
natural beauty
fury totally untamed
arrive and enjoy.
