Fluttering beneath the newly cut
Festive green hollies,
Decked out with heaped drapes
Of freshly fallen snow,
A bold little red breasted Robin,
Busily searching,
Cheerfully hops to and fro.

Darting between the soft, swirling
flakes
Of unique crystalline, driven without
respite,
He alights upon his sheltered
perch
And begins to shrilly trill:
Against the on coming, long
Drawn out Christmas night.

For the drawing darkness is
deepening,
Whilst the harsh wind blows so chill;
And, gently waking
From nonsensical dreaming,
I harken to the old dog Fox,
As, barking, he pads on down
Through the gorse strewn hill.

Suddenly stirred from dozing
Idleness,
As the charred log shifts and
settles in the grate,
I recall with vivid fondness:
Some old memories, good times,
The well meant promises
I did so earnestly to undertake.

Of old acquaintance...
Not forgotten,
And those that were
Or are no more,
Of circumstance and friendship:
And of they
That daily come
To pass through my open door.

But now the flames from the fire,
Dancing in the frosted window
panes,
Are calling for the poker
So I may stoke the blaze again;
For turning my warming back
Upon the locked out winters keep...

I hear that steadfast little Robin
Sing once more -
As I fall back into uncontested sleep!

Christmas Time

Nightgowns on at 9:01
Adrenal induced delerium
Santa’s journey has surly begun
To our beds, we were a scurrying

Closed eyes, at 9:05
But sleep would not come easy
We’d twist and turn, side to side
At least til 5 past 3

Then somewhere before, 3:44
Sleep would come, by chance
Til little sis would creep through the door
Ready to sneak a glance

Prowling the stairs, side by side
And past the grandfather clock
Which, by now, was reading 4:55
Five ticks before each tock

Around the bin and into the den
Stood our sparkling 8 foot tree
Palms were there, to catch our chins
We’d gaze til 5:03

Up the stairs, new teddy bear
Little sister, close behind
Sound asleep, to prepare
For the alarm at 6:59

A Letter From Santa Claus

Dear Susy Clemens this is Santa Claus!
I read the letters that you sent because
In mommy’s notes, the English words are strange…
But jagged marks you drew I could arrange
To read what you and baby sister need
For me to bring you Christmas—guaranteed!

In fact, I came myself to safely bring
Your presents down the chimney; one more thing,
I tip-toed in your rooms and left a kiss
Upon your cheeks. Then, where you couldn’t miss
Them, placed your presents right beneath your tree…
And in the morning, you’ll be filled with glee!

But Susy, baby sister, I must say
Two presents you had wanted Christmas day,
I could not bring you since two of my Elves
Were sick, and none were left upon my shelves.
They are the only Elves that make that sweet
Big doll you wanted, and that fuzzy, neat
Warm hat for baby. Dash and Ralphie say
They’re sad, but hope next year they’ll be okay.

If you are good, these will be on your list.
For now, I hope these presents won’t be missed,
And you’ll be pleased with all the special things
I left beneath your tree—and Christmas brings
Good cheer and love to you each day and night…
The joy of Christmas keeps your whole year bright…
And don’t forget you’re always in my sight!

Premium Member One Winter's Night

I stood on the balcony one night,
The land was bathed in luminous light,
The air was filled with winter's chill,
Frost had covered the window sill.

I stared into the sky above,
My heart had swelled full of love,
The galaxy glowed with bright stars,
Lights so heavenly, from afar.

The night shone bright on every hill,
Yet, everything was quiet and still,
Through the valley no wind did blow,
The little village blanketed in snow.

What joy the Yule is going to bring,
At the break of dawn, the town will sing,
Making this, one eve to remember,
On one magical night of December.

But, in this fantasy land it is late,
And this seasonable panorama is great,
I want to take this long walk alone,
Through unchanging scenery, I wander from home.

I'll take a candle to light my way,
Upon the ice, I could walk until day,
I made it up a deep, glittering bank,
In the glistening snowflakes, my feet sank.

A million diamonds now covered the land,
I pulled my mittens on, over my hands,
The snow could never melt in this cold,
The Northern degrees of stories once told.

I will enjoy the winter as in days of old,
The still photographs of the past unfold,
A thermometer shows the drop of degrees,
The thaw of the snow I hope not to see.

Mirrored is my reflection along the river,
Quartz crystals of ice, makes me shiver,
Icicles hang from a cabin, near the woods,
Silently, wolves and elk in the forest, stood.

Reindeer and rabbits run through the snow,
A memorable sight in the lovely moon's glow,
An owl calls out from high in a tree,
Imagine all this, as a keepsake to see.

Tomorrow the snow will make the children sing,
To the hills, a toboggan they will bring,
Soon, we will hear his sleigh bells ring,
And, all the Christmas bells will be jingling!

I Looked To Heaven That Christmas Night

What shall I do, cast far away my pen
Should wizen Cheshire cat stop its grin
Mighty Amazon stop its massive flow
I paint my Christmas scene devoid of snow
Nay, surrender poets must never do
Snap out of it, sling a new verse or two!

I once a grieving teen, found hope to write
After the shadow of death took a bite
And father went beyond the purple veil
Life fell into abyss, maddening hell
Years flowed past, a zombie I became
Fight the world, slay it was my morbid game!

Just before Christmas, our daughter was born
I saw life, love , hope- left behind my scorn
An angel, with blonde hair and sweet blue eyes
Gift divinely sent from heavenly skies
That very night, my pen spoke words to me
A treasure was given, now you are free!

Renewed the bond and joy again found
Oath to live, a poet honored bound
Given was again dearest saving light
I looked to Heaven that Christmas night
Nay, surrender poets must never do
Snap out of it, sling a new verse or two!

Note:
These last few days, a gloom had came
I waded darkness, forgetting my name
In misery, I drank for sorrow's well
Was this world still here, I could not tell
I woke at dawn and saw a shred of light
Heard a stern voice say, rise thee up to fight
Give life a chance, are you not yet alive
Grab a pen and into poetry dive
Christmas is near, just a few days away
With that admonishment, I knelt to pray.

Premium Member Late Christmas Night

She sat on a park bench late Christmas night
a hallmark moment in my memory.
For relaxing there, she was quite the sight
her face shone as if buffed by emery.

The soft snow lay like a fluffy duvet
covering all in a blanket of white.
And sitting slouched in a casual way,
her silhouette stood out in the moonlight.

She blended right in with the Yuletide mood
earphones on, listening to Christmas songs.
And finding her there I didn't intrude
for in her mind, she was where she belongs.

There are many ways to gift a present
sometimes, simply by not being present.

Premium Member Christmas Enchantment

Under the mistletoe on Christmas Eve when the children are finally asleep, a blessed silence hovers in the air that oozes with divine melody. I have to gasp as I look out my window and find a new dusting of snow glistening in the moonglow. How perfect is this enchanted night~ I swear up in the sky that must be the star of Bethlehem I see.

                                    chaste christmas snowflakes
                                    soft with anticipation ~
                                    a most holy night

   "Twas The Night Before Christmas"

'twas the night before Christmas day
Angel voices rehearsing
sinners preparing brand new way
as "Good News" began dispersing.

blue indigo sky glowing starlight
to guide three wise men to new babe
by one brilliant star beaming so bright
welcome, Christ the King, who would save.

on a cold Christmas Eve of snow
shepherds adored in straw stable
His humble birth would greatness grow
the Word made flesh is no fable.

'twas the night before Christmas morn
peace on Earth good will to all
at midnight the Son of God born
Merry Christmas who follow His call.

Premium Member A Pitch-Black Christmas Night

I am dreaming of a pitch-black Christmas night
Tonight, where the jolly stars can easily be seen
In the sky. From afar, the moon is clear and bright
And the clouds create a wonderfully divine scene.

I am dreaming of a dark black Noel night
Where all babies experience and see while asleep
The jamboree that I'm enjoying under the beam light
Of a flying sleigh. What I am saying is incredibly deep.

When the sky is pitch-black, there's always a party in Heaven
The angels wear an array of colors with their Sunday best
God sits atop, right in the middle of the feast in Eden.

I'm dreaming of a marriage between darkness and brightness
Where there is no evil, there is no Hell in man's consciousness
I‘m not sleeping but I'm dreaming like Baby Jesus in the nest.

Silver Bells

Church bells announce the Christmas season,
as shoppers dash down city streets.
Upon deaf ears and deeds undone,
church bells announce the Christmas season!
Their silver curves outshine all reason –
Store lights, full moon, sky’s starry feats!
Church bells announce the Christmas season
as shoppers dash down city streets.

It's a Christmas Night

It's a Christmas Night.....

Streets have been decorated with colourful lights
Trees are covered with snows flashing dusting
People are dashing with carols singing about
With holiday cheer, filling everyone hearts with joyful night

It's a Christmas night for you and me
It's a Holy night for everyone to worship thee
Jesus Christ was born on this day to save us
Blessed night with peace showers everywhere

The stockings were hung by the chimney with gifts
Santa with smiling face dancing near a fire place
Music is playing, happiness is filling and everyone wishing each other
To remember that the greatest gift of all is Jesus Christ was born on this day

It's a Christmas night for you and me
It's a Holy night for everyone to worship thee
Jesus Christ was born on this day to save us
Blessed night with peace showers everywhere

A Silver Sixpence

On a cold frosty night the moon hung in the dark sky like a silver sixpence,
Waiting for a bus that seemed to be hours late, wind dried my face I was cold,
While leaning on the stop sign I could see into rooms through lighted windows,
All seemed warm and cosy Christmas Trees glowed and fairy lights went on and off.

Decorations hung from ceilings they were all colours gold, silver, reds and blue,
Black and white televisions told everyone about cold weather outside on the news,
People walked past windows wearing short sleeved jumpers, children smiled happily,
It was Christmas Eve, and somewhere in the background I could hear Slade singing.

In house windows and on mantle pieces hyacinths blossomed the mingled with the tree,
There were crocuses and Dutch and Florentine tulips adding to the splendor of a room,
Best tables were on show piled with egg-nogg and bottles of cream soda and lemonade,
Stockings full of chocolate, crunchies, buttons and a white milky bar hung on walls.

Open fires roared fed by copper coal scuttles mum and dad celebrated with a Babycham,
A glass of Sandymans Port sipped by the grand parents all laughing enjoying themselves,
Then in the cold night air I could hear an engine struggling up a hill to my bus stop,
A green double decker windows glowing stopped and I got on, I silently wished my window
Friends a happy Christmas.

Premium Member Christmas Beauty

All is beautiful on this Christmas Eve night in my neighborhood
Bright colored lights are flickering on many a lovely home
Charming and enchanting- it seems a fairyland to me
Delicate, fragile snowflakes are falling as I hesitate here and there
Engrossed in the beauty, the snow caresses my hair from above
Feeling a glow growing within me, I ponder the meaning of Christmas
Good thoughts are flowing within and I imagine a baby born, a saviour
Heavenly visions of sweet Jesus in a stable lit by a guiding star
Inner peace, I embrace as I walk the quiet snowy streets
Joy and happiness beyond the doors of these dwellings I pass by, and
Kindness abounds at this time of year, I wish that could last all year
Love is what I remember at Christmastime . . .
Magically, the memories come drifting and I find myself weeping
Nirvana is where my family dwells, waiting for me to come one day
Open-hearted, I share my sorrow, it drips from my pen
Peaceful, oh so peaceful is my wintery world this December night
Quietness so deep, I can hear the snow falling on the bare tree branches
Respect, I have for nature that can change from beautiful to dangerous
Serene lovely scenes quickly become places forbidden
Tranquil snow has turned into a blizzard with wild wind
Utterly amazed I stand in the storm swirling wondering which way to go
Vibrant the lights that still glow on the snow draped dwellings
Wonderful they seem to be guiding my way home
Xerox copies of Christmas songs twirl past and I try to grasp them
Yes, there is my home, all lit up and welcoming me back
Zestfully I run up the path to my door, thankful for the fireplace within
