Premium Member John Calvin - God's Man 1509-1564

John Calvin one I greatly admire
a man God set apart in His will
turning His mind and heart
and by His spirit full He did fill

This man once obedient to Rome
now transformed by Christ His king
for he was indeed God's man
purposing glory for God to bring

Although born a French man
he was to be Geneva's own son
reforming the Swiss capital by God's truth
the reformation really had begun

To be this man would be great
spreading forth God's gospel sound
impacting Europe for many centuries
but able to stay humbly heaven bound

To live and stay among such beauty
Switzerland is my favourite land
would feel so privileged and honoured
if God had made this His will to stand

AUTHOR NOTES:I am content to be who I am but if I could have been anyone
else in history it would be the great Geneva reformer John Calvin (1509-1564),
so thought I would write some thoughts on this hero of the faith.

'Tis well known that "Silent Cal" Coolidge was a man of very few words!

He considered that long conversations and inane babble was for the birds!

A lady bet if she could elicit more than two words from him it would make news.

He mulled over her challenge for a few minutes and replied, "You lose!"

My Manderin Orange Calvin Kleins

Everybody was after them back in the day
I tell them this is not the King, you can't have it your way
I still have them and they are still sought after
When I wear them, I don't understand the laughter
A policeman stopped me and gave me a fine
He said I was violating the noise ordinance with my Manderin Orange Calvin
Kleins
My niece is due to inherit them for her generation to enjoy
They are unisex, made for a girl or a boy
I try to make sure that disco is still rockin'
Right now I am jammin' on the song Jive Talkin
I am wearing a shirt the color of red tomatoes off the vine
This shirt will go well with my Manderin Orange Calvin Kleins
I have to dig a chest to find my three inch platform heel shoes
The color has kept well, the brilliant Robin Egg Blue
The shoes are tight, but the read a size nine
What a great combination of clothes all built around my Manderin Orange Calvin
Kleins
As I go to a club to dance, I clear the floor
A bouncer shows me kindly to the door
I wonder what did I do wrong to deserve this
I lift my arms and smell my pits
A girl calls me Austin Powers and tells me I am way ahead of my time
I tell her it must be my shirt or shoes, I know it can't be my Manderine Orange
Calvin Kleins
I guess I will move to a place where they show pity
Maybe a place where I can fit in, I know such a place, it is called Sioux City
Maybe then I can get the respect I most certainly deserve
I will wear my Argyle socks and throw them Sioux Cityans a curve
I hear the Carmens and Brewers are cousins of mine
They will all be jealous of my Manderin Orange Calvin Kleins

Like Calvin Klein

You never wear cologne to work
But there you go
Out the door
In your tie
Smelling like Calvin Klein

I want to ask, "For whom?"
But I just wave good-bye
My heart is racing
I'm afraid of
The Why

I watch you pull away
Looking for clues
A sign
I take a deep breath
Smells like Calvin Klein

(This poem is my favorite because I feel like it really captures the fear. the instant panic, the denial, and ultimately back to the fear he's cheating. )

Calvin Klein and Menthol Cigarettes

When everyone wore Calvin Klein
I wore pairs of Old Navy jeans and graphic tees
When everyone carried a mouthful Menthol Cigarettes
I carried a mouthful of Sour Patch Kids
When everyone was having cups of Kalik
I was having cups of Pina Coladas
When everyone was rocking Air Jordans
I was rocking flip flops and Converse
When everyone went to Atlantis and Baha Mar
I went to Blue Lagoon and Ardastra Gardens
When everyone wanted to go to Miami
I wanted to go to Key West, Maui or Bora Bora
When everyone grew up to be a police
a teacher or a front desk clerk
I grew up to be a tour guide,
a beach nomad and a storyteller

For Calvin James

I smiled as I hug you
Joyed as I tugged you
From anywhere to everywhere
Your baby eyes bright and clear
I am proud as I befriend you
Still soft and handsome as dew
I watched you grow
Alighting on any rose
Your roguelike fancy chose
I was contented when you marry
Had many children in a hurry
Whom I was too far away to know
We talked from phone to phone
When cancer invaded your bone
I heard you whispered
But it never registered
The dew must go when sun
Light empties the cup of fun.
O, tongues-i, I have no tears
For all the memories of our years;
One day I will let go
But I cannot do it now - far as I know.
