Premium Member Our Liberty Blazing Soldiers

"...when power narrows the areas of man’s concern,
poetry reminds him of the richness
and diversity of his existence...”
--John F. Kennedy

~~~~~~~***~~~~~~~
Soldiers of our armed forces,
Iraq, Afghan, Lebanon, many shores,
Light the way like liberty blazing torches
They fight heat, bugs, sand, tough faces,
urban warfare, darkness, crashed doors,
Soldiers of our armed forces
Now Send home change of addresses,
stories, photos, emails, strange places,
Light the way like iron cut by torches
Camouflage faces, wet bloody bruises,
brows sweating, under helmet gushes,
Soldiers of our armed forces
Sleep in sandy humid desert trenches,
thunder blast, bombs dropped, fire fights,
Light the way like laser torches
Loved ones wear yellow broaches,
anxiety, praise, tears, vague smiles,
Soldiers of our armed forces,
Light the way like liberty blazing torches.
Premium Member White Crows
Morning ignites a murder of white crows.
roosting in the loft of spruce, maple and oak.
Preening moon and star from death's fertile dream.
Ribbons of sunlight wrapped tight, ancient scrolls.
Window ajar, enter angels donning broaches of mint.
Crows perched lightly upon honey kissed bed posts.
In each platinum beak, they carry one corner of my ghost,
lifted toward an ember of pulsating eternity,
garnished with pearly crown and secondhand wings.
Outside, the crows lined up along golden cobbled clouds.
Motionless, like a rosary of gleaming white stones.
Whispering, whirling secrets of galaxies and geodes.
Drifting about, chrysalis brained, rose petal hearted.
Leaving behind glittering pools of scented hieroglyphs
Orange robes enchanting the horizon with lavender mist.
Butterflies released from blue granite chrysalis.
Riding a stream of cherry sun beams and glitter.
The echoes of a rainbow are a grand place to live.
Premium Member It Was One of Those Mornings
A Morning to Forget
Came wide awake, feeling rested, so refreshed
took shower, drank coffee, even got dressed
noticed it was still dark, only two hours slept
with six hours left, back to bed I crept
An Unforgettable Morning
Sipping strong hot coffee, cool breeze on our skin
Sun broaches the horizon, a new day to begin
Kentucky bluegrass glistens, silver morning dew
front porch moments cherished, alone with you
Premium Member Prettiest of the Pretties
She had the utmost prettiest of pretty things
Ruby bracelets, broaches of garnets, diamond rings
Some looked up to her because of her fancy clothes.
Who these thinkers were providence only knows.
I waited for her to make her move, not yet impressed.
She was all of that, beautiful, and gorgeously dressed.
I suspected she would be vile, selfish, insanely mean.
But instead she had kindness such as I had never seen.
Cockroach Concert
All thanks to William Wordsworth, one of our greats
I wandered in my kitchen round
floating high on cocaine broaches
all at once guess what I found
a nest of golden cockroaches
inside the stove, beside the fridge
singing and dancing on every ridge
Continuous gold in costumes fine
eyes a-twinkling;  looks of gay
parades in never-ending lines
the bug-stards out in full array
ten thousand I would estimate
with spindly legs on roller skates
They weaved and waved in glorious tune
to Bug Stars' hit "We're wild and free"
well good to make a poet swoon
to hear such perfect harmony
I gazed in wonder at this troupe
outdoing any pro rock group
Skilled crooners crooned while chorus girls
in-sync tap-tapped and showed slim knee
with hoops and loops and swirls and twirls
each pitch they met with practiced ease
involuntarily I swayed
blew air kisses in accolade
Now oft in bed when sleep eludes
in vacant and depressive mode
their scrabble on my mind intrudes
as on my food their sh-t they load
and then my heart with rue is stocked
cocaine's a bug-ger!! I'll smoke my socks!!
The Wind
The lonesome visitor approaches
With its thriving exuberance
With an infinite endurance
It meanders and broaches
It moves with blithe and glee
Clothing all that comes its way
Whether big or small; it ne'er say
"I wont for you give me no fee
It arrives from nowhere
But abides silently with us
It leaves no wailing thus
With its presence felt everywhere
A companion of the cardinals it is
From North it steers headway
From the South it nears everyday
For East and West will attest to this
It moves above you as a ringed halo
It strides with you as a compatriot
It bows before you as an abbot
It slithers beneath your feet as a shadow.
Defy the Dreadnaught Darkness.
Defy the dreadnaught darkness
that repels Gods' given light.
Beware the banshee blackness
dour damnation shrieks delight.
Leather wings and padded paws
phantom forms of ferine fright,
searing eyes and hunters' maws
drive intrepid hearts to flight.
From the boiling brimstone bile,
condemned corpses rise as one.
Pockmarked faces nod and smile
for the noxious night has won.
Defy the dreadnaught darkness
let the serpents' sons be bred.
Beware the banshee blackness
as the worms caress the dead.
Perverse pits where evil pours
scorched blood and liquid lead.
Demons crack forbidden doors
so our shivers might be fed.
Defy the dreadnaught darkness
where the rancid reptiles dwell.
Beware the banshee blackness
where one mis-step broaches Hell.
The Ruba’iyat of Créteil Lake – Part One
Lone gold Venus nears the sickle moon in the late autumn sky
She lies naked dreaming with one leg tucked under her thigh
The pallor of her silvery skin simmering with tide
A lone white swan trundles on one webbed foot heaving a sigh
Her tiara of amber and halogen loose by her side
The gold-braided brocade and studded raiments on one side
Gushing tresses hang loose by twinkling broaches on her back
Heady scents from pubic island and dark armpits fester inside
Wintry winds sweep through weeping willows tickling her fancy
Sway clumps of yarrow stalks huddling fearless coots in colony
She turns and heaves a sigh thinking of Old Khayyam’s ardour
Stars in his eyes and ruby red wine coursing through glory
Over the mobile hips and seductive slopes of her hills
Come calling Canada geese and wild duck in squawking trills
All messengers from Tundra’s ever clasping hoary past
Will she remember you O! Omar! when freezing water kills
The hoar frost wheezes under-foot along her silken robes
And the lone otter dares not venture out in his last throes
Even the sea gulls swoop no more for deep hugging blind fish
While she slumbers through blared Canada geese trumpeting oboes!
Premium Member Flying High
There she sits, blowing the high clouds away
Multi-colored hues, colors that surround
She can’t find another to look this way
There she sits, blowing the high clouds away
Blend of air and space broaches here today
It’s the best feeling she could find around
There she sits, blowing the high clouds away
Multi-colored hues, colors that surround
Black Flag
The official name is
Contrails
No more than condensation
The alternate one
Chemtrails
poo pooed across the nation
I can't help notice
months go by
With none in sight
Are we to understand
that
No plane has taken flight
Yet, when they
Return
The skies are cross hatched
Such coverage in true
Journalism
Won't be matched
I've discussed it with
My brother who many
topics broaches
When they return
I call and say
There's sprayin the cockroaches
Love's Temprament
Times like this,
I sway in the playground of my mood;
Falling into a melancholic digress.
Hovering over me,
Are misty dews of pessimism.
"How knowledgeable is he
That cannot read minds?"
The heart gets burdened
Knowing not if it's curve,
Would ever be straightened.
Your silence broaches my heart.
Premium Member My Heart's Decree
I'm stealing a few moments from Father Time
to pen my thoughts on parchment pages.
I write of mirth we shared, sweet and sublime,
capturing it in recorded history of us for the ages.
As twilight broaches night, I write by candlelight,
scrawling thoughts that are roaming in my head...
those refusing to remain in my heart.
Though frowns have furrowed our brows
and etched wrinkles and creases on our faces,
we shared many more moments of laughter
that made us cry tears in streams of joy
rather than those wept in sorrow and sadness,
cherished memories of loving embraces.
There are things I could never find voice
to reveal. Perhaps, it's better that they
remained unspoken then. But I feel sure
my eyes told you more than any spoken
words could have made any clearer.
If you could see my eyes as shadows fall,
you'd be aware of more than I could bear
to read the drop of your shoulders,
and the rivulets shining on your cheeks
as moonlight begins peeking in the window.
In reading this, you have my heart's decree
that my love never died, but was magnified
year upon year with great depth of emotions.
And at its end, you'll find teardrop stains
smearing the ink that would never run dry
if I continued writing, but my confession
is long enough. It's in your possession
in this dour darkness without a whisper
I could offer in farewell, or one last embrace.
Anatomy of Winter
The sun slips a wink
And wilts a few degrees
Like ritual, September passes
Leaving a wet headache-
October falls fondly,
Pawing the door like a hungry cat.
Strewing orange gifts and straw.
But Winter arrives,
And a chill broaches the air
January’s sunset catches the glass.
The trees branch like bronchi
 Ventricles fall like lace over the eyes
Bloodshot, usurping every last tear-
Underneath here- the skin prickles and bones grow,
Like coral, hard and skeletal, it barbs the nerves.
I’m cold, but every season has its will,
Spring is on the way.
Limitless Limits
In life you set limits
And you live by those limits—
Sometimes you are better off,
Sometimes you suffer.
Can you have more fun?
Live a little more if you
step out of bounds once in a while?
Be more adventurous?
A tad more notorious?
Walk in the shadows,
Walk the back alleys
every now and then?
Everyone has to make
that choice on his own,
Everyone invariably pays a price.
Life's lived within the limits,
But the spirit to survive is boundless,
Mind binds us in mysterious knots
Only heart trespasses all limits,
Hope traverses the uncharted realms
And flight of imagination soars to heavens!
Hate transcends all boundaries
So does revenge,
Man’s hunger for war is limitless
So is the longing for peace,
Love surpasses all!
Sin descends to the bottomless pit,
Envy broaches all limits,
Only justice dwells within the bounds,
And so does faith and family.
