Best Approaching Poems
Skulking between the thinning clumps
Of tattered sedge
A balding coot despondently calls,
Scratching Blackbirds scutter deeply
Into a Hawthorn hedge;
Whilst, creeping stealthily,
Gathering darkness onwardly crawls.
The blackened Moorhen washes the clinging
Soot from his feathered form,
Rising above the mirrored pond in awkward
flight.
Gathering clouds mumble softly of an
Impending storm,
When, silently menacing, inwards marches
The approaching night.
Listening intently, between murmurs upon
A breeze,
I check my step and briefly pause -
To catch a low sigh whispered from among
The sullen trees...
A last desperate plead of their lost cause.
For now billowing cumulonimbus sags
And begs to stall,
As, slowly homeward bound, I gather
About me to hastily make;
Where, circling high in rushing element,
The ragged Buzzard begins to fall...
Upon Heavens gathered Furies -
That so conspire to thunderously break!

Rainy day here
in the city
Cooling us down from
summer heat
The steam from
the sidewalk
will eventually
cease to rise
Summertime is drawing to an end
Cooler winds will soon prevail
The time of firecrackers, and lazy beach days
will soon make way for the time for football
and the high holidays
Soon the forest will
be ablaze with red and gold colors
Autumn is approaching
Time continues its relentless onslaught
The years are not always kind
Yet I look forward to autumn
In autumn light life becomes
clearly delineated
The autumn breezes
will blow away sorrow and pain
The autumn sun
will shine down
and with it happiness
will return to the land
Life is often bittersweet
Yet, if we take our time
We can enjoy the
beginning of autumn

Ballad
The graves have been dug
all bugles away
Medals awarded
for valor displayed
The soldiers in transit
to homes once so dear
But where is the peace
—when gunfire you hear

~Christmas Is Approaching~
(Pantoum)
Christmas is approaching
Us so fast by now
There's rejoicing more cheer
Hearts in Christmas glow
Up so fast by now
Child Jesus will be born
Hearts in Christmas glow
All with His love trueborn
Child Jesus will be born
He brings only peace, love
All with His love trueborn
With good tidings from 'bove
Christmas nearly here
There's rejoicing more cheer
For He's the reason
Christmas is approaching.

What is it about the sight of the female form
That turns us to hot jelly from a tepid lukewarm
We fumble and fuss
Our complexion gets flushed
As we anticipate the approaching thunder storm

My goodness the time's really flying by
Nine o'clock and yet no new poems
Get your bum into gear my dear friend Jack
A new morning has already broken
Try not getting caught with your pants down
Scouts say, “Always Be Prepared”
It's very good strategy for many things in life
Like toilet paper, always have a spare
Maybe writing poetry is a little bit different
It comes from deep down in our soul
If the brain ain't clicking there's not much use
Really difficult to really control
Feeling some movement, hope it's not a doodoo
Think it might be a few rhyming lines
By jove, I do believe a poem is emerging
So everything is gonna turn out fine
Needn't have worried, it's happened before
Last minute poems are the best
Damn problem is they usually don't rhyme
Means I really did fail the test

In the distant thunder I can hear the sound of riders drawing near
A gathering storm that will soon hit with great force
The first rider will ride in on a white horse a bow by his side
He comes in the name of peace and good will, but he practices to deceive with
flattery and great skill
A red horse follows close on the first riders heels
He comes with a sword to take peace from the earth and cause men to kill
War shall ravage the land and the blood of men will flow as a river across the desert
sands
A black horse closes the distance
He will cause a great famine to spread over the land
Many shall cry out in hunger and pain as food shortages cause great strain.
Many shall die in this dark hour of need for there shall be found no grain or seed
Riding in at full gallop the fourth horsemen approaches
The name of this rider is Death and Hell follows close behind him
Men shall watch in defenseless terror, for unto the pale horse
Power is given to kill by the sword, with hunger and the beasts of the field
The time has come to sound a warning through the land for the approaching hoof
beats
of the apocalypse is nigh at hand

Spring is approaching
Its specter dances in air
Flowers will bloom beautifully
And Earth will be young once more
Enhanced by rainbows

Here
it comes again
to where I always am...
waiting, watching, so hungry my eye.
When
I was alone
waiting in the wind of a different city
wearing the absurd clothes of my youth
I opened all the windows and doors
because I knew it was you approaching
Now
again you stir the air around me
feathered in like a sweet hot wind
singing, dancing
tumbling along
and yet
I am still
and you are always arriving
some how I always knew you were close
But you never
slow down to let me smell you,
hold you for a moment
like I remember
on the hill, in the sun
the circle of trees happening
something I can only glimpse
and some how I think you know
that the sun warmed our bodies
the trees circled around
and your eyes reflected the sky
on the hill
in the now and always
blazing summer day

Through warm scented mists
her pert shape silhouetted
a hunger lures I
like an asp, I taste the air
approaching lavender gems
