Just What Is a Broken Dream, Anyway

A strange sight upon a lonely road.
A dream ripped in half.
Looking closer, I wonder what was the travail.
An old price tag attached, making me wonder at what price it was sold.
Along the edges, tattered and torn, it gave forth an evil laugh.
As if some sly devil concocted a way to turn someone pale.

Onward I traveled, with pack upon my back.
To the left and right of the road were littered with more broken dreams.
So many that one could not keep track.
Some having been blown into the parallel stream.

So, I checked the pack upon my back.
And, yep all my dreams were there in a stack.

Cold winds howl, trying to rip my back pack to shreds.
Freezing were the winds, but forward I march.
Never losing sight of my dreams in spite of many dreads.
They all hold up strong even though many times I'm in a lurch.

Suddenly I see people returning to the road.
Going back and picking up their dreams.
Dusting them off and restoring them to their pack.
Each and every one said to me, you are quite bold.
To go forth and not let the cold winds of fate not destroy your knack.
To face life as it comes and not give up even if offered gold.

Good, bad fortune, are likewise of no importance.
Put a failed dream back in your pack and maybe a new day will appear.
Where you can unpack that dream and give it another go.
But, for today, march forward, today's failure might tomorrow's dance.
You gave it your best, and win or lose, that game has ended with a spear.
Win or lose, that game is done so pack it's knowledge away in your pack and grow.

Suddenly down the road a new vista appears and a brand new game.
Left high and dry or victorious are the two possible ends of any venture.
But in truth, knowledge is all you will have, win or lose.
For tomorrows game is just around the bend, all the same.
Win or lose, the game of life only ends for the moment within sight of the new adventure.
So, to quit and call it the end, only makes you look like a goose.

Thank God, Anyway

Winter. Saturday morning it was.
I woke up, called me my boss
"You're so lazy, you can't work anymore!"
Do you know, how were in a big loss?!

Couldn't believe in what he said.
Without moving, the way to stress i let.
No, it was my dream job, if you know?!
Dismissal was really my upset.

I thought, my life came to the end,
Oh no! It mustn't be the end.
I have a friend with the name "Alcohol",
Without fail, only he can help.

Jumped out the bed, hurrying to my friend,
Going to the shop by the pevement.
Staying in a big crowd of people,
Noticed smth. and stood for a minute:

I saw a girl without legs,
Do you think for money she begs?!...
No! She was playing violin
Thank the God, in any case!

I saw even an eyeless man,
His life was by itself fun.
He was earning by telling jokes
Thank the God, in any time!

A woman lost her baby, i saw
What feelings were inside her?
What would i do if i were instead?
I thank the God, anyway!

Yes! I started to thenk my God.
Cause, you know, life is really short.
Wasting job is nothing than these
Never stop to thank your God!

Where Did My World Go Anyway

Very silently step by step
In the dark it slowly crept
Until one day, to my surprise
The world I knew, I could not recognize
Little bits first then big ole pieces
Before you are aware, the world you know ceases
Never did I gave it a single thought
A glimpse of the end was all I caught
I took it for granted; am I to blame
Thought it would always stay the same
Eventually I decided to join in
With feet first, I jumped in the din
Kill the cops; behead the innocent
Persecute the holy, pay up for the indolent
None of these things sounded right to me
I found, I tried, I could not be
What can be done; I do not know
But where it is heading, I cannot go

Premium Member I Didn'T Love You Anyway

I know that you live in a world of your own
Fantasy and dreamland really should be your home
You’ve taken everything away from me
But I’ve cut the ties, now I am free

So you’ve been caught with your trousers down
You were wearing a grin – now your wearing a frown
Well boy I’ve only got one thing to say
I never really loved you anyway!

Premium Member Whose Dog Is It Anyway

And so it is
And so it was
And so shall always be

This group of smartly sounding words
Leaves little hope for you or me

Can what will be, be
If what was, wasn’t
Because what is, isn’t

If the truth becomes the lie
And the lie follows suit
Would that make seeking either
A trivial pursuit

These questions seek no answer
They sit idle in a fog
Amused by the lunacy
The tail chasing the dog

Who Are We Anyway

My reflection in the moonlit pond
The owls are watching
The bullfrogs, the loons
The trees, the mountains, the stars
I hear what they say
How insignificant we are

Anyway

Some gloom took her from me.
Or was it hate?
Or did it rest somewhere between the two?
She's gone is what matters.

The cars pass anyway.
The wind blows anyway.
That new apartment block gets built anyway.
The grass grows anyway and is cut down and grows and is cut down and grows and is cut down and grows and is cut down and grows and is cut down and grows and grows and grows and grows and grows and grows-

Anyway

I decide to shave one morning, the mice in the scruff have fled the snakes long enough.
At least this way they can see them coming.

I wonder which one I am.
But then think that's stupid.

Who Was That Idiot, Anyway

I met a man the other day
I think he thought he knew me
He heard me speaking with a friend
He said "Hey, are you from Kentucky?"
Well, I'm from West Virginia
He obviously doesn't know me

He grinned and then persisted
"Do you know Jethro," he inquired
"Or maybe you know Jesco?"
I wondered who he thought I was
but could not recall these people
so I just shrugged my shoulders
He obviously doesn't know me

He giggled then and called out a name
Someone he called Hillbilly
God, then names this fellow knows
I have to wonder about their parents
I smiled quietly and shook my head
He obviously doesn't know me

He seemed disappointed and on he went
"You dropped out of school in eighth grade?"
I wish. Grad School almost killed me
Even though I was a Mensa member
This guy sure knows some winners
He obviously doesn't know me

He asked if I was a moonshine farmer
I said' "no, electrical engineering"
He then accused me of never wearing shoes
So I wiggled my La Sportivas
Boy this guy sure is off the mark
He obviously doesn't know me

He surely wasn't satisfied
and started speaking strangely
It sounded vaguely Norwegian
"Venn, er du litt treg?" I asked him
He just stared at me blankly
He obviously doesn't know me

Finally, he went on his way
I told my friend, "I think he thought he knew me"
He angrily replied, "I think that he was teasing"
I laughed from deep inside, smiled then winked
"Who was that idiot, anyway?
He obviously doesn't know me"

I'Ll Love You Anyway

Very mysterious, no heart on her sleeve
Not what I know yet what I believe

Always I will love her, she can't rob me of this
Among things she stole, respect and bliss

God only knows, what makes her tick
I can't see inside. Too stubbornly thick

Along with anger, always comes pain
If only I could shelter, umbrella the rain

You can lead a horse to water, but can't do the rest
The repetitive stabbing has wounded my chest

A boomerang, I will always come back
A post it note, complete with a tack

Signed, sealed and delivered. Written in stone
Dedicated in hopes, our relationship, I will hone

A guardian angel, from a far
On the darkest of nights, that one shiny star

Like the weeds in your lawn, I won't let you down
Here I will stay until I am found

Premium Member Who Cares Anyway -- Read

I read him my poems and he said, Oh I feel so sorry for you.
Had I read him a newspaper, would he still have felt sorry?
To read him a novel of mine, would have been too long
and would he have lost interest by now?
But I read him some old love letters,
now, he is really sorry for me.

Premium Member Too Late For the 7-7-4 Thing, But Thought I'D Throw It Out There Anyway

Rhyming is not hard for me.
Neither is light poetry.
Lucky that way.
OK, the stanza count's three.
Rhyme scheme is A A then B.
Lots more to say.
Where is this going? We'll see.
Dr. Suess seems to guide me
along the way.

Once upon a time's cliché,
memories of yesterday.
Then it got hard.
Do I want a fish filet?
Why can't I just run away
from my backyard?
Society has its sway
like seven syllables, eh?
Sometimes it's hard.

Yeah, so back to my backyard:
vinyards, retards, and en-guards
go with the flow.
Charcoal leaves nasty black chards
even grandma sometimes farts
those in the know
get it that … yep, can be hard.
Or soft, whatever. My cards
go for gusto.

Smile Anyway

Which Day Is It Anyway?

Holidays which fall
during the week just confuse.
Today is which day?

written the day after Canada Day. Fell on Thursday this year, logic informs me today is
Friday however my mind is not convinced; could be Saturday or Sunday even, feels that way
to me:)

Premium Member Why Do People Love To Dream, Anyway

I don’t know about you
but my dreams are always all mixed up
like sometimes I’m half my current age
and I can run like a gazelle, and then I’m
right back in my current prison of a body
limping through an airport, sweat pouring
off of my chin and down the back of my knees
exhausting myself trying to keep up with
the crowd rushing over to book a new flight
‘cos ours has been canceled for no good reason
at all and me without a smartphone,
O, what am i doing in a vast indoor mall in skokie,
illinois, with my daughter and estranged son
from my previous marriage when we live
five miles away in west rogers park, chicago
and now we’re all lost and these little green men
seize my son, abducting him into a disc
with flashing lights while my daughter and I
we both speak Russian ok are in a Russian
restaurant somewhere in Italy, lost sampling the
pizza and Putin's men are trying to find us because
my current wife is from Ukraine omg how are we
ever going to get back to WRP now we're on the
south side of chicago and everyone is staring at
my poor daughter and me and oops she's gone…

What's Your Soul Worth Anyway

Did you know what your soul knew?
Deep, in the dark recesses of your mind
Lurking, quietly hidden...Coaxing you silently
See it through...Acknowledge.

Truth...Naked, exposed if you truly look
Supposed, if you bait and hook
Disclosed, if a chance you took
Take it!

Live freely, for your life...it's worth
Claim what's yours, dig deep...unearth
Dignity and honor, your very essence oppressed
Held hostage in bondage, in secret...possessed
Shout out! Shout loud! Let it go to hell!
The money and power...The narcissism spell
Left lonely, unhappy, your soul to sell
Putrid, lingering...self-betrayal smell

Jumping the hurdles, to keep it all
When? How high? Why you feel so small
A puppet controlled by strings that sprawl
From head to toe, someone else's call
Not a move to make without permission
A sold out soul is about 'submission'
Fake it! Break it! Make it!
Of your own...Volition!
