Best 1988 Poems
I felt a small tremble below
And knelt on the floor ‘cuz I know
Something wasn’t right out of class
And a second much bigger blast
Left crumbs of glass from a window
Who is aware I can follow
Into the sun, I mean shadow
A family of grades amass
Breathtaking view
A mushroom cloud did overflow
And blanketed the afterglow
From the effects of the jet gas
That took the freedom to trespass
Instantly my school was bulldozed
Breathtaking view

My 5 words are: WHO WASN'T EFFECTS
BREATHTAKING FAMILY
percussion hailstorm
my ears no longer bored
daydreaming about oceans
mixing memories
during power outage thoughts
an escapade my uber sunshine
nodding my head with eyes closed
to some rare 90s hip hop
candy sunglasses tastes like cinnamon
watching lightning threaten me
as i sit under a tree
remembering things like the fiddlers three
now the wind is a flute
from a funky 70s jazz song
my emotions floating on air
now its day 17
the sky has turned purple
paper thin has turned to quick thick
i find myself smiling fully
for good ole music i am a bully
now i push the Good Weight to the Pulley
I'll Always Love You
"I'll Always Love You"...song by Taylor Dayne,
a top hit back in nineteen-eighty-eight,
reminded me how thirty years before,
in 'fifty-eight, "you won my heart and soul".
"You are the one that I'd been searching for,"
"I'll always love you till the end of time."
And here we are, two-thousand and eighteen,
together sixty years... "you are the one".

green and white
he asked
why was it covering the peeling ochre walls
and the moldering door
she said
it was different then
an artist used to live
upstairs
Smack talking, crack walking track knocking
Pyro setting
Drama getting
Sun setting
Down by the docks
Flocks of Hawks
Dance on rocks
Crazy, snazzy bustin locks
Boats shakin
Waves breakin
Bodies quakin
Another summer makin
Beach nights
Hot rights
Drunken fights
Lost sights
Neon tights
Ocean and sand
Water and land
Patios and band
Drinks in hand
It's 1988
We stay out too late
Party? Can't wait
Leather and pastels
Flock of Seagulls
Haispray and gels
Midnight Ssshhhh don't tell
Time to go
Don't say no
Time goes on
They'll know we are gone
Curfews and rules
Churches and schools
Hurry get home. Try.
We had a ride back. Who was that guy?
We will be caught. Grounded. Must lie.
We made it. There's still 26 days left of July.
1988
It was so long ago but to me it seems like yesterday,
times were great and music was something to die for.
I lived in a secure world of good friend and parties
and days out in the sun. My music was the Bangles and T’Pau
all singing about love and freedom. I was in love
through the summer, my emotions setting the world on fire.
I’d get my YTS money and I’d go to Wales and live my life
in an intense three months of love with a Welsh gal.
My friends were the best and the future looked bright.
Yes I did discover you can live your dreams and dream your life.
It was a time that was really great.
It began on April the 29th of 1988.
When I saw her, she was special and unique.
The type of lady that many a man would seek.
It didn't work out even though I desperately wanted her to be mine.
That was twenty years ago but I still have fond memories of that time.
Unfortunately it was a long distance relationship and it did not succeed.
If things had worked out between us, I wouldn't have shirked her needs.
No one ever told me, it could be like this.
To have such a fine boy, whose life I'd miss.
To look at a face, grow into a face like my own.
Bass in his voice, could he be my clone?
If along our path, should we walk by.
Would I know him from his stride. My stride, coincide.
Are his thought that of mine? Does he tilt his head just so?
Absent from his world, how would I know?
I could only hope we have what binds.
A father. A son. Could God be so kind?
