Pepcon Plant Explosion of 1988

I felt a small tremble below
And knelt on the floor ‘cuz I know
Something wasn’t right out of class
And a second much bigger blast
Left crumbs of glass from a window

Who is aware I can follow
Into the sun, I mean shadow
A family of grades amass
Breathtaking view

A mushroom cloud did overflow
And blanketed the afterglow
From the effects of the jet gas
That took the freedom to trespass
Instantly my school was bulldozed
Breathtaking view

Such an interesting topic choice, and I love how you turned it into rondeau. Your refrain intrigued me because, although obviously a tragedy, there is a strange beauty when it comes to the sheer power of explosions ... your words invited me into the scene. Thanks for the read. Check out my blog, if you ever get the chance, and tell me about your poem :)

Thanks Timothy, I thought this contest was an excellent challenge. You left it pretty free with just enough guidelines for a muse. By the looks of the winner list you received a wide range of diversity and forms... Fun!

Oh yes in the moment. I was only 8 but I remember how crazy it was for weeks. the damage it created for a 5 mile radius was devastating but somehow the number who died was exceptionally low; like 3 people.. Just major injuries.
