Attention Getting Poems | Examples

Premium MemberSuspension of Belief

Are lingering sighs, while expressing disbelief
Showing some frustration ere welcome relief,
With sincere, rapt attention to what it entails
Carefully absorbing the minutest of details,
Sometimes with the aid of a silk handkerchief.

Then, too, observing the most foolish mischief
Showing itself in a variety of impetuous motif
Sending one off the straight and narrow rails,
                                        Are lingering sighs.

A heavy sigh can denote suspension of belief
Or registering information requiring a debrief,
To assure utmost security from whatever assails
Attention-getting, to be sure, notice never fails,
Quite different from sudden breath-taking grief
                                        Are lingering sighs.

My goodness, I wonder, when I read of your deeds
Are you really a member of the U. S. Congress?
Reminds me of that unstable U. S. Senator named
Joseph McCarthy, who accused good people, made
Outlandish accusations and wound up censored.
Republicans cannot be proud you are representing
In high office their grand ol' party, with such
Explosive rhetoric and shameful behavior.

The thought crosses my mind that you are simply
Attention-getting, that your true motives are hidden.
You believe that even the most unsavory publicity
Lands you votes, makes your name well-known,
Or … is it possible that you are truly unhinged?
Really?

Goodness, surely you cannot believe the bizarre,
Radical conspiracy theories you so blatantly
Espouse? Obviously, you must not care that
Everyone is questioning your sanity, knowing that a
National high position cannot amend your reputation.
Every day brings hope you will rise above your station.

Criticize Then Condemn and Complain

Criticize Then Condemn and Complain

Some people sure like to entertain,
Driving back and forth in fast lane,
And are fretting;
Attention getting;
We criticize, condemn and complain.

Money Honey

Ad agencies inform customers in a brazen way,
Each day that the sun rises they’re making hay.
Attention getting commercials are so designed,
To take my cash by planting thoughts in my mind;

They think a sexy lady will encourage impulse buying,
But she, like most products, I find uninspiring.
Some spots are outrageous and many are quite funny,
Most turn out to be me squandering our money.

They always tout things that seem to be of great use,
And with lifetime guarantees they attempt to induce.
Sometimes they succeed convincing me of my need,
While their account rise’s I watch my credit card bleed.

Yearend I’m bombarded by causes needing assistance
And when I don’t respond, another letter of insistence;
I always feel depressed on those times when I’ve refused,
This joyous time of year I shouldn’t feel so abused.

Scream

There it is, way deep down,
In my loins,
Teeming passion
Boiling upward, to my belly,
Reaching the pit of my stomach, tightly tied in knots.
From there,
Surging up my esophagus/windpipe,
Making me feel sick, gasping for breath
Running, dashing headlong
There at the back of my throat,
The scream surge intersects the brains message.
The two intertwine and merge to become
Forceful, powerful, ferocious, etc.,
And together force its way
Outward, explosively.
A scream, bloodcurdling.
A scream, deafening.
A scream, attention getting.
A scream, head turning.
A scream, imploding instead.
Tumbling down from the heights,
Falling back as ordered.
A scream, silent,
Deafening silence
Hear it? See it?
