Premium MemberBeg Your Pardon

I’m in the band called “Beg Your Pardon”
Our latest, “The Luddits Headway”
Sells well, and the “Forest of Arden”
Our hit, has got some airplay
There ain’t no plans for touring though:
The phase of changes lingers on
Our singer left to form the “Zoo”
Our drummer yesterday has gone
The reason was the weak attendance
Our captive crowd went away
Eventually, our independence
Drifts in the truest luddits way..
For goodness sake, I’m not complaining
You see me busking every day
Still “Beg Your Pardon” stuff I’m playing
Although it sounds a bit too plain
In my rendition, but who cares
The people pass me on the street
Last night a lady from upstairs
Came down, and we talked a bit
She was a bassist in “Murango”
An ethnic band that played worldwide
I put some jazz, we danced a tango
Got a few clappings in the night.

Premium Membera persnickety picky boss snake

pink faerie was assigned to the bug garden
there was a snake too, his name was Arden.
He was persnickety, picky and bossy too.
You certainly live up to your striped hue.

What do you mean? Arden asked in a snotty way.
He was irritated by the bugs and flies who wanted to play.
You are kind of bossy, but in a colorful way.
So saying, pink faerie felt satisfied, like she had had her say.

The bugs cheered when Arden got angry and slithered away.
He always made us nervous said a pink bug named Mrs. Fay.
I was terrified of his stripes said ladybug Merry Me May.
I thought he would eat me said a striped grasshopper, Gay.

Premium MemberLOST HEARING GLASSES

Hubby was pottering in our garden when off the cuff,
He said I’ve looked everywhere but can't find fluff
Our cat and, must plant these pansies,
But I’ve lost my reading glasses,
Where to plant them, for now can’t hear you love.

Woman of Substance

She knows when to say yes and when to say no
She gives you so much, you keep asking for more
She manages her own home, kids and money
Straight talk, her words are not dripped with honey
She knows when you lie and looks you in the eye
Nothing misses her sight not even a fly
She can bulldoze her way into anything complicating
Before you know it she’s got everyone clapping
She will sacrifice her life if she believes it’s worth the cause
When she puts her mind to something there is no press for pause
And so we have, Indira Gandhi, Indra Nooyi and Sudha Murthy
Michelle Obama, Angela Merkel and Jacinda Arden
All these lovely ladies who need a good applause and garland

Like a nymph from Arden,
She entered my life’s garden.

Like lightning to me, she came;
For me, she was an ideal dame.

As feminine as a jasmine flower,
She found in me a protective bower.

I traced sweet nectar in her talk,
And a dancing swan in her walk.

Her floating hair for me was a cascade,
Placing my face in it, like a child I played.

Listening to the sounds her anklets made,
In rapturous mood, my head I swayed.

Arm in arm, in all kinds of weather,
Like love birds, we moved together.

People’s evil eye badly cast on us;
Like wild fire, it led to a deadly fuss.

Against us, our own damn cultures,
Played in disguise the roles of vultures.

They rested not until we parted,
And to heaven our souls departed.

Maturity That Matters

Who was such an arrogant p***k,
Turned out a sport, and double quick,
What was vulgarity
Turned into charity,
What was a faux pa, what a trick!

Poet’s note: New Zealand PM Jacinda Arden was caught on a hot microphone using a vulgarity. Yet, what could have taken an ugly turn, turned a face-saver. She and her target agreed to sign an official transcript and auctioned it to fetch 100,000 NZ dollars. Well, one who was a p***k sort, turned out to be a good sport! Some may focus on vulgarity, some on charity, what about the politicians’ maturity?

    Don't step on me
    sweet Marie

    This world is so big
I'm not a candy polka pig

    Bend down on your knees
    please, Louise

    Hello, James
are you ready for guessing games ?

He knew how to be friendly
    always spoke gently

When the grass turns yellow and dries
without the shell I may die

    I believe you realize it
    I'm slimy, yes I admit

    My name is Arden
    I live in this garden

I carry my house on my back
and sets out on my track

Ha,ha did you guess I was a whale?
No, I'm a happy little snail

Haunted

"Haunted"

kept in suspense

the pastoral
disappeared
dreams and visions
are seldom all
that they ever seem

Love meets in
cerebellum blue
Forest of Arden
to twirl around
minds unseen

like fingers
trace scars
as feathers do
where the ghost
Tears of Rien

rip veils gently
parting the
invisible sea
to call turbulence in
like Love seeks Romance

in
The Glistening

haunted
magic
yet to be

Premium MemberWish I Could Eat a Pear

I am longing for the spring and panting like a thirsty deer
too many days have past since I last felt the sun
beneath anemic skies my body shivers in the clear
I have not become immune to the cold that winter spun
so angling for heat I turn my collar to the wind and shun

the whipped willow tree with her gentle arching ways
her generous weeping branches frozen in mid air
a healthy thrill of scissor skates, a Christmas winter maze
perhaps I used to once but now, I got no Bartlett pears
and my sciatic pain has grown beyond compare

Craving for a slice of heat or a warm wet pool of water
I hanker like a hungry squirrel looking for a nut
hibernate of night nocturnally tucked away diurnal as the otter
perhaps I'm just an old woman falling in a rut
wearing double swim suits while being pegged a hoarder

I'm longing for the blossoms of yesterday's sweet garden
for the roses my father grew inside the lattice square
back in the days when I used to wear Elizabeth Arden
my braids were long and brown instead of barely there
wish it were spring instead of winter, wish I could eat a pear.

Premium MemberFlawed Perfection

Radiant and lovely she sits.
Her lips curved into a sensual smile.
         Calm stillness poetic form,
            Her heart beats with passion,

   A breath, among Arden flowers.
      I could see the façade behind the mask;
         Absolutely beautiful in the lamplight
            In suffering lull, torn innermost,

   Emotions, she's cracked and broken
      Creating an illusion of perfection,
Covers the imperfect to ignite an image
Of flawlessness; not flawed, a vase of sunlight.

Premium MemberRosalind and Orlando

Orlando has written a lot of love poetry.
Written on leaflets, they have been placed on every tree.
Ubiquitous in the Arden woods, they are easy to see.
Orlando expresses his love for Rosalind freely.
His wording is not good, and his rhymes are lousy.

Rosalind now roams these woods, but is not alone.
Joining her are cousin Alena and the fool named Touchstone.
However, Rosalind's identity you will not recognize.
She is now called Ganymede, and is a man in disguise.
Since you defeated Charles the wrestler, she's been in love with you.
A reuniting with Rosalind is just about due.

Based on the play "As You Like It" by William Shakespeare

Premium MemberBridges of the Past

Bridges of the past crossing my mind
reminding me of leisure rides, once mine
While a fine fine sun coated my yearning desires
I flew into the stormy spaces of a wide open world;
Polka dot dresses, sunglasses of yellow
Elizabeth Arden lipstick and lemonade kisses
You were always at my side, tanned and beautiful
fresh as linen by the covet of the sea;

Sandcastle dreams and sailboat rides
beneath the boardwalk, promises made with pride
Junctions, intersections, passages never to be reversed
I recall soaking in the stars, cradled in the sand
swaddled with the cautery and charms;

A bridge was crossed, and when I count
the things I've lost,
you come to mind,
a ship at sea, searching for its ghost.

Played his sleeve
Violins, no less,

Mid-Century Modern Dream

House hunting was a challenge
as the real estate agent drove me around,
I specified that mid-century modern
was my dream and hoped to find it,
determined to be patient and not have a fit.

At an open house I found what I wanted,
a sprawling beauty with ceiling to floor windows,
with a giant sliding glass door that opened wide,
stepping outside into a plush garden,
before my eyes a lovely sight of a verdant arden.

My parent's blonde furniture fits well
throughout the spacious and light rooms,
a white brick fireplace highlights the main room,
matching sunburst mirrors decorate the walls,
a Sputnik chandelier sports its space balls.

I am surrounded with my retro theme,
life in my dream home has come true,
living the past in the present is a treat,
as if time stood still in the golden days,
reminding me of life and its easy ways.
