How shall I weep with those who mourn
When I have sensed the sweeter breeze
Wafting o'er the stones and through the trees
Across the sealed bronzed lid of death-borne
Sadness, yet eternal healing surely means
The bereft of pain are free;
The bereft of loss are free.
And so am I who stands before the glaring pit
Gazing into vast eternity, thinking only of me.
I shall not linger long to greet the wounded
Souls, whose cries of anguish at the bier
Reawakened in me long-dormant fear of dying
O, pity me, that I should self-accusing be
Grief-stricken without a solitary tear.

Beside the placid waters of the Rhone
A classical village rises to meet the sky,
The magnificent steeple an inverted cone
Hoists a Saint Anthony’s cross to passersby.
The placid waters of the Rhone reflect
Tightly crowded flats along the banks
While gondola-like barges quietly bisect,
Creep behind a steamer in solemn ranks.
Beyond the placid waters of the Rhone
Behind where the hamlet cannot expand
Where artist has never dimensionally gone
Are meadows and fertile stretches of land.
Above the placid waters of the Rhone
And the village so central to this scene
A cerulean sky lends a peaceful overtone
With wispy clouds, a sight not often seen.

Midst the power of bright faith’s light
I believe in God’s divine writ
Of true love and devotion’s might
Trusting in the Holy Spirit.
Mankind’s redemption is assured
Midst the power of bright faith’s light
Since the Saviour’s blood so treasured
Paid sin’s wages; cleansed evil blight.
Eternal peace with joy delight
Awaits each seeking genuine heart
Midst the power of bright faith’s light.
Vanquishing wounds from hatred’s dart.
Beseeching for gracious kindness
I call to the Lord for world’s plight
Freedom from selfishness-blindness
Midst the power of bright faith*’s light.
*Mark 11:22 And Jesus answering saith unto them, Have faith in God.
