Amusements Poems

Premium MemberEnd Game Conclusion

When you’re dying of terminal sadness,
It’s easy to fall for false cures,
Distracted by tempting amusements
Whose needs seem more pressing than yours.
When you’re two moves adjacent to checkmate
In the game of asserting control,
You’ll get ghosted and gas-lit,
By a gold-digger’s gambit
Hell bent for a piece of your soul.

Lost Heaven Haiku

"Lost Heaven Haiku"

...there are many rooms in my house,
you could get lost in the eternal amusements
the infected monoku stalking the lost heaven haiku

Premium MemberOut My Window

Through my window, I watch children play.
Over harvested fields, they move and run.
Unmindful of the bite of stubble under their feet.
Eager to spend their holidays in great fun.

Some run around, kicking the ball,
Passing it to the goal posts quick and smart
While some in groups skip, hop and jump,
A few like asteroids, through cosmic void, dart.

By my widow I stand and watch their lively sport
I can hear their shouts of joy and hilarity.
Like tiger cubs, sometimes they fight,
Alerting the neighborhood to their noisy gaiety.

These scenes weave pictures of delight,
Reminding me of the days of amusements wild.
When such shadowy phantoms fill my brain,
I yearn to be reborn once more a child.

A Motor Park In Nigeria

Here, the word I drop for Travelers “Hark!”
Where offended driver begins to bark:
“Why should you there your Stupid Volvo park?”
The bared teeth of speaker those of a shark;
If he sank them in one’s flesh the same mark,
Now cursing one, next singing like a lark…

Hurry not if destination is Park,
Not the Amusements, I mean: Motor Park!
Where wires of new licensed cars spark,
Your pockets picked while Daylight was still stark,
Fights ignited last until it is dark:
Preachers surface to dwell on Noah’s Ark…

Where one meets with Comedian Passengers,
By their sides Satan’s Soft Messengers…

For thee a tried Nigerian Motor Park,
In which had been displayed Award Gold Plaque…

Premium MemberAbandon

Absolutely surrendering to the amusements of fate
Benign benevolent sentiments within bring bodacious bait
Abiding austerely into the ageless absurd fits and starts
Never negotiating with nature's nebulous nuptial new arts
Divine decorum dazzling dawn is what the environs drive at
Obscure oasis of the omnipotent ominously pat
Nefarious, nauseous nostalgic nemesis kneels as a gnat

Premium MemberThe Maypole

I remember it well.
The feeling was swell.
It happened once a year;
An event most precious and dear.
The fragrance was in the air.

It was still mid-Spring, but from the sky,
There protruded the aroma of summer.
I hasten to say, it was a beautiful first of May.
And presently, I pause with warm affections, to reflect,
To muse upon the emotions that were like no other day.
To us, May Day was like a holiday encased in amusements.

It was time to plait the Maypole.
With coordination and precision, we flowed
With the rhythm of the music as we danced and skipped
Around the pole, plaiting eye-catching bright and bold colors.
They were rainbow colors, filled with life, like those in our hearts.

Oh, what lovely and memorable visions of childhood, so real and vivid.
No selfies or videos, but the pictures are forever painted in our souls.
It's true that life took us away, far from the shores of childhood festivities.
In our career years, we are encumbered with futuristic aspirations, but as
the locomotive of life slows, our minds swing back to the Maypoles of yesterday.

Premium MemberThree Happy Italians

Palazzo Strozzi near the Duomo is empty now,
The tourists having sought more grand amusements;
Perpetual restlessness the most common souvenir
They’ll be bringing home from vacation.

Giotto’s Campanile seemed manly from the outside,
Its shoulders squared against the distant mountains,
But its winding stairs betrayed an inner sadness,
That worried my intent to see the skyline.

The streets of Florence fairly simmer in the sunset.
I crossed the Ponte Vecchio to get across the Arno.
Three happy Italians splashing barefoot in the fountain
Remind me I’m a long, long way from home.

The Loyal Figure

It has been a revolution of revelations
Full of whispers
It has been a analysis of analytical
Full of wonders
Wait a minute, wait a minute
The plot thickens
Who could that be

As the sun moves up
In the sky
The universe has opened
Its chambers
As the moon lights up
The darkness
Everybody would know

It has been a moulding of a mystery
Full of amusements
It has been a phrase of perfection
Full of grooming
Wait a second, wait a second
The story just began
Its the name

Have I Been Too Long At the Fair

Have I been too long at the fair?
by Michael R. Burch

Have I been too long at the fair?
The summer has faded,
the leaves have turned brown;
the Ferris wheel teeters . . .
not up, yet not down.
Have I been too long at the fair?

This is one of my earliest poems, written around age 15 when my family was living with my grandfather in his house on Chilton Street, within walking distance of the Nashville fairgrounds. I remember walking to the fairgrounds, stopping at a Dairy Queen along the way, and swimming at a public pool. I believe the Ferris wheel only operated during the state fair, so my “educated guess” is that this poem was written during the 1973 state fair, or shortly thereafter. I remember watching people hanging suspended in mid-air, waiting for carnies to deposit them safely on terra firma again, neither all the way up nor all the way down. Premium MemberOh What a Christmas Tree

Oh What A Christmas Tree

Mistletoes, poinsettias, holly, and pinecones, stimulate their confidences regarding passage,
Tenuous fancied is the Norfolk pine, object facing, particular noble fir, and unique blue spruce trees,
These choice picks are amidst the well-bred evergreen trees variety fulfilling unspecified housed ambiance,
Detonates invariable sanctioned jubilation that a tree augmented during this festive holiday pageantry,
Well-kept treasured amassed souvenirs concerning marvels, embellish the excitable anticipant,
Venerated ostentatious amusements that sparkle in changeable glassed colorful bulbed shades,
While delicate precious keepsakes in attic cluttered boxes, issued in periods fording the annular flake catwalk,
Together with tinseled and snow-sprayed intensifications to ring in a most blessed Christmas vision,
In the whole grandeur, unwrap gifts escapism within overindulged pupils, a halcyon sweet surrender.

Premium MemberHer Thoughts Were Opaque

Her thoughts and amusements were opaque. Blocked in a defensive wall.
Early hurt feelings had caused this, said her empathetic spiritual advisors
She had learned at a young age the wisdom of keeping her emotions inside.
She had been burned early. Sharing feelings where they were not welcome.
Annoying selfish people who were focused on their own hurts.
Drowning them in buckets of bitter tasting alcohol,
Smoking them in cartons of Winston cigarettes.
Smacking her unwelcome feelings down.
Laughing at them. Making her cry.
Her thoughts were opaque.
Not easy to decipher.
Not easy to guess.
Not easy at all.
Yet they
were
her
own
One
Thing
She
Could
Control.

Premium MemberThe Attractiveness of Sin

Sin is so very an attractiveness thing
our flesh bows to its allurements
believing its suttle words so suggestive
its power holds us in its amusements

The Bible declares sin so dangerous
it corrupts and corrodes the heart
makes it deceitful and desperately sick
totally blinding us in no small part

This evil all came in at the garden in Eden
Eve rebelling from all that was good
persuading herself the tree was fine food
then convinced Adam both misunderstood

Sin dresses attractively in our fallen state
luring us to think that all is going be right
deluding each of us to our own folly
no wonder God says stand true to fight

Paul warns us speaking to the Ephesians
be strong and armed against devil's cunning
for our enemy, the devil uses sin to blind us
look to the Lord to send Satan running

When the Day Comes

I want the day to come
When my soul finds its other half
Then will i be at ease
Adoration and love i will give him
In return double will he give me

In the past i paid less attention to passing amusements
Amusements of which i have no time for
The thought of jumping from one to another makes
Me shiver in mismorality ,therefore i will only wait for him
Whom i have not met but exists

In the prison cell of which i stay ,only i have the keys
In the prison yard i glare through the fences
Waiting for him to free me
All he has to say is "i am here now" and without
Question of who he is i will hand over the keys to him

Together happiness will be a definition of us
We will break down the fences that try to grow between us
On our wedding night we will dance until
The night strips me of my innocence

For now i will glare through the prisonyard and wait for him to come
Until then i will fold my arms and watch other lovers as well as
Passsing amusements pass by outside the fence while i wait.

Lions In Sheep Skins

Lions in Sheep skins
Is all that is left in the World
No more brotherhood and kins
The world before only need to be told.

From family members to friends,
Supervisors to managers,
Officials to Religious leaders,
Neighbourhood and abroad,
The pure heart is still below the ladders.

Lions in a sheep skin,
They come like sheeps,
Covered in the light of goodness and hope,
As white as snow, as gentle as a dove,
With promises of wonders of Gold.

Their surroundings amongst us are powerful,
We need them now and then,
They know us better, so do they retaliate,
Until we realise we have different interests,
Life is full of amusements, and entertainment.

We like toy soldiers in some cases,
Where ever we go,
in most situations we find ourselves,
From relationship to marriages,
Most of them we find recently......
Are Lions in sheep skins.

Everyone of us is born with a different perception,
One man alone cannot stand,
Yet we need to figure out and investigate,
In order to strike with the right people,
In the right moment of our lives.... Watch out!
