Footnotes

A thirst for walking shoes tightens ankle bones –
it would be sure enough a miracle
if for at least one morning
I could parachute out of my own inner attic
to make a soft landing into
lighter than air sneakers.

Alas this world is overrun with footnotes,
warnings that we are not to take anything at all
for granted.

Amazing how some days
allot me just enough time
to recall, that I am not yet,
or may never be,
Bonafide.

The spiritual path is rocky and narrow,
agile mountain goats get ahead of us,
as we slog behind
picking up their leavings,
each dropping a footnote an*
that the race we have been losing for years
may be already over.

If (by any chance),
I have any wisdom left to me,
I would vehemently caution all:
for God’s sake
to always read the small print -

Premium Member Better Names for a Camel

The dromedary camel has one hump,
and the Bactrian camel has two,
but I always get them mixed up!
Do you?

So, just for a bit of fun,
here are some alternate names for camels.
(Feel free to pick your favorite one!)

One alternative, after some study,
could be a handle like "Dune Buddy".

Or we could suggest, without fear of rebuke,
an appellation like "Desert Duke".

While sipping on some apple cider,
I thought of this one: "Sandy Strider".

And my friend, an avid motorbiker,
has suggested "Hump Hiker".

Here's a basketball reference that's worth the money.
How's this for a name? "Camelo Anthony"!

And a medieval reference which we can allot
would, of course, be none other than "Camel-ot"!

Things Held

Holding all I hold that’s mine.
A modern king. The gifts of time.

Allot no grip nor means to hold.
Today in grasp yet drifting old.

Begotten days become as sand.
Slow subtle shift across barren land.

Things held before now gone from view.
Fast faded they like morning dew.

Four seasons passed as if a dream.
In winter’s chill left wondering.

Now looking back, was not as planned,
for in the end… I naked stand.

Gifted Man

Walking in my life,
I met one life,
Of one man life.

I life his life,
He speak about life,
Example life of wife.

I life his face,
It shows confidance,
Speaking with evidance.

Tone of his voice,
When giving you advice,
Like he has merchandise.

Has allot of chance,
Which shows experiance,
When problem face.

If directs his finger,
You are in danger,
You should be stronger.

His mind in head,
Has allot of heads,
Which you could not heard.

When see his syles,
Shows allot of files,
Which you will smile.

Could not I know!?
Being with him before?
Tone learn from him more?

I know him now,
I become his narrow,
He ends in jaw.

It Took The Blood

I give scant thought to what tomorrow holds,
I live life fully as each day unfolds.
Though present days, may be bathed in sorrow,
from my hinder days, I cannot borrow.
Most hindrances in life I always surmount,
But time calls each of us into account.
Tomorrow, for each, God gives us no pledge,
Nor does life allot, our good looks, an edge.
Our wealth or position won’t get it done
but accepting Jesus, God’s only son.

“Be glad of life because it gives you the chance
to love and to work and to play and to look up at the stars”
Henry Van Dyke

Frank

I know a dog called frank,
A Swedish Vallhund he is,
Though some think he is a mix Corgie and Husky,
He looks so sweet and he is,
Some dogs he sees he barks at allot,
Not sure if they are friendly or not,
They tend to stay away.

Frank has a jealous streak and will snap to show it,
He gets told off for that,
Frank is loving and cuddly but it to much when hot,
He absolutely hates water and mention a bath and he's off,
Frank has some quirks,
He wont poo unless walked,
Everyone knows his bark.

Franks mate is butch they get on really well,
Sometimes a sleep over they have,
I dont get allot of sleep,
Waking sometimes 5am ..... he needs a walk,
Frank is stubborn knows what he wants,
He is loving to get what he wants,
That's our frank

Premium Member Life's Complexities

When the sun is blazing bright:
we feel its rays warm our skin.
And somehow, we instantly feel less stressed:
our worries get consciously placed on pause,
while our primitive genes greet the moment.
Breathing in a breath of air
reminds us that we're alive.
Life is too short; we don't pay attention,
while time ages hearts with a gentle hand
and shares the subtle splendors of nature.
Forget life's complexities:
they get tangled over time.
Reflect on the innocence of childhood,
when youth was an unexplored adventure
and everything we discovered was new.
When a songbird starts to sing,
its song warrants a response.
But crushed by the weight of reality,
we allot no time for life's little things,
for death can abruptly cut our stay short.
We've only one life to live,
let's live it, the best we can.

The Fields Are White

God blesses some with a discernment gift,
Some will testify providing others a lift.

Some allot time for phone calls each day,
And touch the heart of one gone astray.

Some spend much time on errands for others,
Then feel remorse if it wasn’t their druthers.

Others may preach while many will pray,
And some help the poor throughout the day,

The fields are white and the workers are few,
So if you are willing God has a job for you.

Premium Member Thanks For Stopping By

Life ...

'Tis a precious gift
As is the time we're given on this earth
Our world spins at a speed that's hard to keep up with
And it seems no matter how we allot those minutes each day

There's never quite enough of them to fit our needs
Or accomplish all we hope to ...
So, taking a hundred seconds-or-so to read this little verse
May not seem like a big deal

But ALL time is so precious and irreplaceable
And I want you to know, sincerely
That I appreciate it so very much - these moments granted my words
Or any time spent reading or commenting on my work

For sharing our time is a priceless offering
An offering that we never get back
So, whether you like my poetry or not
I am thankful for these minutes that you've gifted me

And I pray this blessing returns to you soon
That you find something within this occasion that's worthwhile
And know how very appreciative I am
That you stopped by

Thank you!

Premium Member Frosty Words

Frosty Words
Written: by Tom Wright
4/7/2018

I allot time to past words frosty in flight,
They’re like chains or a promise unbroken.
By vacated words I frequently feel contrite,
But vociferous words cannot be unspoken.

Words are like arrows departed from quiver,
Once released from a bowstring can’t return.
Whatever the intended message, they deliver,
And the recipient cannot your heart discern.

Once frosty words are released on a course,
And settled in on their intended quarry;
Though we seek forgiveness and feel remorse,
These same spent words return to inventory.

Premium Member Gusty Winds

The storm that thundered is fading still
Reluctant to let go the reign of dark
But the nascent light behind the clouds
Unfolds the scene that's changing fast

On a happy note then she proceeds to allot
Augury of goodwill forgetting the past

And he sees things the way they used to be
Holding hands of love he finds her near him,
Not a blemish in view of his serene imagery--
Snuggling her closer, he reaches for a kiss

But gusty winds return razing his reverie
Blasting cold air on feelings of warmth
Taunting his dreams to accept the fact:
She's the one who unleashed the wrath

Smiling Yet Dying

Smiling outside but dying inside
Laughing for everyone to hear, crying…not showing a single tear
Helping others day after day, never asking for help, no freakin’ way
These are the masks we wear every day, reminding ourselves to be okay

We follow the crowds, we go with the flow
They don’t want you to think, they don’t want you to grow
We all do this to feel needed, important or any form of self – worth
Stop overthinking, be yourself…make YOUR difference while still on this earth

Take the lead, cause following will only end in pretending to be someone you’re not
Never happy, never satisfied, always confused and disappointed allot
No one will really know you and what you have to offer in life
So just be YOU, see through YOUR eyes, go forward and strive!
