The land around here looks like it belongs to the side of a lake,
it slopes downward gently, suggesting a meeting with water,
front-lawns surf on grass-rippling winds.
Water is forced uphill by a secret pumping station
on the far shore of the State freeway.
When it rains we consider this a near drowning,
backyard dinghy’s and row boats creak in the wet winds.
Our aboveground pools allow only space
for the whelping of baby seals, and we honor that.
The aboveground nest of bees
brings sweet foodstuff kept in hives
as the colony carries
painful bitter bites.
Good n plenti riches abound
unreachable to gentle
hermit while aboveground,
human ship of state
fore'er stranded aground
only thru death do him part will
his grievous soul get spirited airbound
chokehold sensation ceased when freedom
against debtor's prison unshackled
humongous human corporeal being all around
to little monetary largesse
arrived too late to astound
pipe dream eternally left within background
jackass kippered, milquetoast pockmarked,
Goliath scarred, voodoo battleground
visible near completely bloody lovely bones
partly denuded flesh
buried shallow belowground
scouting, scenting, scrabbling
one after another bloodhound
clamors leaps and doth bound
nosing, trumpeting, yelping...
despite snout muzzled reinforced brassbound,
no deterrent grisly bared, limp, lifeless body
sacrificed at skull and bones campground,
despite decay tell tale
hunch unearthed mound
picked over remains evince sound
I wish to return
aboveground to take a walk
with the wind and shake
off this stupored, spirit-mood;
this deranged daze by your side.
“How may I help you?” asked the quasi-mother earth counter girl at the espresso bar/quasi-coffee house, “Oh, give me a cup of house coffee; after all, I’m just a caffeine ****,” I replied,
She looked startled, then controlled, gave me my beverage and returned to the cultivated profanity of a repressed wildflower aboveground disconnected from her roots in the fertilely non-sterile soil of mythic satyrs and sacred whores.
A frothy mist shrouds the ground
A cool breeze drifts all around
A frosty chill doth surround
Solar rays no longer resound.
A plethora of colored foliage aboveground
A web of tangled, rotting roots underground
Chelones, Mums, and Golden Rod abound
In gardens bright, colored gourds propound.
Ragweed pollens and mushroom spores confound
Leaves metastasizing with brighter hues redound
Stealthy Evergreens emerge into the foreground
Maple taps their sweet syrup doth expound.
Migrating birds skirting cooler air are southbound
Doting Wasp Queens from dying nest bound
Honey bees cradle in warm, colony compound
Squirrels Summer store will carefully impound.
