You Used To Love

Do you recall the innocence that accompanied being young? And the very first-time snowflakes landed upon your lips and tongue? Can you remember a wild rose with its spicy, fruity perfume? And the smell of apple blossoms when the orchard is in full bloom? Can you recall the summer you saw fledgling birds take off and fly? And the night you felt a kinship to the stars twinkling in the sky. Do you remember the first time freshly cut grass tickled your toes? And the first time you climbed a tree or saw a scarecrow scaring crows? When you were young, you'd marvel at flakes fluttering down from above. And yet, now that you're all grown up, you ignore what you used to love. Are you so busy chasing dreams that you forget you live in one? Life itself is a fantasy; filled with wonder and heaps of fun. Dear Emile, your eloquence stirs my spirit to reflect. Your thoughtful poem is impressive and impactful, especially in the last two stanzas; "now that you're all grown up, / you ignore what you used to love." and "Are you so busy chasing dreams / that you forget you live in one?" - such profound thoughts reveal sad truths of living in the adult world. Thank you for reminding me to embrace what I "used to love". Congratulations for your excellent win in Brian's contest. Warmest wishes.. ~Susan

People do forget, but I think lives are so busy today that many just don't realize they're not taking the time to stop and smell that rose. Quite profound!

At 85 I must look at the good old days when all the pills were what someone else was taking. I will try to follow your advice, though, and look at the bright side. Love, daver
