Wounded

Come and gone like small twister like the cloud of debris he’s left. Echoes of Charlie Brown’s buddy Pigpen blow through the cobwebs in memory. Left over coffee cups replacing Transformers still dumped in the attic. Reams of knarley skateboards, wheel-less, lay in piles like so much unburnable refuse. The obligatory hugs and peck, over and done the never paid chauffeur collapses… Ah, to have him always near, So, each kiss was not quite so dear. The last fair maid on parade has wandered across the home front, wondering about her predecessor, still tacked with magnets to the fridge, still part of my heart and his… Sons…they say, do not cause such angst. Couldn’t prove it by this mother. This maternal blimp of unused helium was not permitted a girl child. One did come and fleetingly leave before formed. We’ll never know the sweetness of her. Let the image of his manly self disperse, this son.. into the mist as his Father’s has… to be remembered again, only in times of need, his need, for to do anything else, would be to rub salt in an open wound.

Debbie, I know the feelings of the loss of a child. Ours was not yet born, but a fetal death. We never knew if it was a girl or boy...but the loss was no less felt. There is, however, the saving grace that only faith can give one when that happens. Your saving grace is in your words so filled lost love. No one can relate what you have written here any better! Dan C For your Harvest Moon Contest I am going to use "to the moon Alice" .

Terrific poetry Deborah, you sure have a knack for words. If I may, I would love to enter my poem 'Full Moon Fever' based on mooning the crowd. Have a lovely Sunday >> James :)

Debbie, This is a sad, but moving poem...one of acceptance and recovery against the pains that women face. It evokes emotion...a lot of emotion. Nicely written. Love you, Dane (I would like the topic "Moon Over Miami" for your Harvest Moon contest. I am finally inspired. Is it still available? PS My x-husband died yesterday...sad.)

Debbie, a very beautiful and moving poem. I could really identify with your second stanza. My son grew up too fast, but I am blessed by daughters who call me all the time, still, though they are grown. I would like to choose Harvest Moon if that is possible? Thank you, Connie

This truly is such a touching write-- I couldn't help but read it again -- I can only imagine the pain you would have gone through with this one-- my own mom had her share of miscarriages-- a sad but very compelling write that comes across as quite vivid to me as well-- I sure am glad that you told us about this for your contest, definitely worth reading-- speaking of, can I please write on "to the moon Alice"? I have a thought for it, hope I can pull it off--thank you ;) -soupmail btw nikko :)
