Winter's Rose - My Spirit

white frost streaks her hair
smooth ice-sculpture skin of youth
     stroked by cracks
            wrinkles that have weathered life
                 skin once firmly packed sags

in the mirror a figure she doesn’t recognize
    but she laughs
          budding spring beauty
summer rose that danced through seemingly timeless evenings

restless rebellion came with fall
     withering, yearning

but winter, sweet winter
fills her heart with warm memories
resignation, acceptance of a life well-lived
a spirit that will never die

winter’s rose smiles, prepares for eternal life

I remember this one so clearly...such a strong message of accepting the things we cannot change and celebrating a life well lived...I personally relate to the part where one looks into the mirror not recognizing the image bc in my mind's eye, I am a young girl as playful as an elementary school girl...Who is that person in the mirror with her age spots and straggling gray?...There is NO WAY that could be ME! Wonderful poetry by you, Carolyn!!

Beautiful, a glimpse into the future for each of us. The final concession before stepping into that final frontier, for every journey has a beginning and an end. However, the promise of tomorrow does not belong exclusively to the living, but rather continues past our limited understanding however obscured it may be by the veil of mortality. With each new journey comes fresh supplies and new clothing to meet the challenge, but first rest the good long sleep:)
