Winter Wonderland Oh let the lovely winter soon arrive With its sparkling blanket of pristine white. How winter season makes me feel alive With scarlet colored cardinals in flight. Glory of this season enchants my sight As twilight sees stars twinkle with moonlight. Children laugh, building snowmen during day, Snow ladies too with eyes of coal that glow, Hoping that freezing snow has come to stay So kids can form snowballs to toss in snow At unsuspecting adults they will throw, As snowpeople stand-by to view the show! I love to watch the little ones have fun Sitting on a bench amidst snow flocked trees Feeling the warming comfort of the sun. Children love making snow angels that please. They play all day 'til some begin to sneeze When prompted from a stronger colder breeze. A snowscape of small angels from God's hand, This is my view of winter wonderland! 12-15-18 A STRAND (1051) Poetry Contest N/A Sponsor Brian Strand 1-13-22 Winter Wonderland Contest Sponsor Emile Pinet Urban Sonnet Invented by: Laura Loo. Connie, I recently wrote an acrostic about poetic forms ("Pursuing Poetic Polyphony") where I used the Urban Sonnet for the "U" line, but had never actually seen one. Now I have! You do it justice with your lovely account of winter's pristine blanket and watching the children gallivant in the snow. Living in Southern California my whole life, I do not have many snow memories, but those I do have are all magical. Now during a September heatwave, it is delightful to cool down with these images!

So perfectly described Connie and congrats. As Paul in Malta, we have sweltering hot days right now but love our winters in the Karoo. Nicely penned my friend. Poetry wishes, Jennifer.

Your winter wonderland is full of beautiful imagery, Connie. Alas, over here in Malta we never get the chance to experience it in person as snow fails to make out where our small island is!! I hope you Christmas will be a joyful occasion spent and shared with family. Sending you love, peace and blessings. // paul

Hi Connie, this is a beautiful Winter Wonderland that flows forth from your pen. A fun-filled poem that does bring back memories to me of being out in the snow. I still love to see the snow. Love to watch the children play, remembering my youth as I watch them. This reads like a winter winner to me Connie. Have a wonderful Christmas season my friend. A fave. Have a wonderful Thursday. Hugs....Mike. XX

Your Winter Wonderland is as close as I ever want to be to snow and ice! After a lifetime of trudging through snow, ice, and slush, even a photograph of a snowflake is enough to make me shiver! Lucky you live Hawai'i! Aloha! Rico

A wonder-filled, winter-quilled sonnet of the white season's thrills. I find it hard to write yet another winter sonnet, so far any way, but this is inspiring (you always inspire me) and very lovely. Look for love via mail soon. A sonnet gem, Connie Love, CayCay

Hello Connie … nice and visual on the topic of an opposition season to ours. I can't imagine snow at Christmas. Our concern is how hot is it going to be - Merry Christmas Connie - Lindsay

This was wonderful and fun Connie. I remember those days of building snow men and having snow ball fights and the best part...hearing that school was closed because of the snow. But since moving to Texas...not to much snow here. :) Best wishes in the contest my friend.

There is nothing more beautiful than a winter wonderland scene that you've captured so well in your verse, I remember when my daughters were young, they were mesmerized by it and would stand there looking and turning blue. Hope you and your family have a wonderful Christmas. Tom.
