Notes About The Poem

Black out written 22nd August,  2026

Wild Dreams

breathless hush
Beyond dreams
with candlelight burns

Lives cross lives idling
Beyond souls emptiness'
piano speaks
'It's all in one mind'
the trees listening
for they are one
with the universe
Eyes smell flowers and become them

There's a deathless hush tonight
tidal wave sweeps in
breathes and sinks all lights lit

Mormon tabernacles washed away like barnacles
Coyotes are confounded & swim nowhere
An orchestra keeps on playing Handel's Water Music
Horns fill with water float away like lovers horizontal
Loop becomes a rollercoaster
like water glasses mixed with Buddhist brine
watered down beer topped with sea foam
Beau Fleuve suddenly become salt

buried masts of Amsterdam arise
the great wave sweeps
to wash away over-age Camembert
steaming in sea-vines

the washed land awakes again to wilderness
the only sound a vast thrumming of crickets
a cry of seabirds high over
and Indians reclaim their canoes

Thank you ... this is black out poetry where you take prose and black out words to reveal a new poem.

Alison it is a brilliant piece you've chosen & brilliant what you've done to make it your own. I've only done an article of my own in blackout form. Congratulations to you on POTD! 🦋

Dear Alison, Congrats on a remarkable piece. Blackout poetry is always a fascinating balancing act, but what you’ve pulled from Ferlinghetti’s original feels entirely reborn. It’s a striking look at the cyclical nature of things and the way the ego and human constructions dissolve, making room for an ancient renewal. It leaves me sitting in that stillness long after reading. Blessings, Danie

Thank you so much for your deeply thoughtful comment. Your right blackout poetry is the finding of a hidden pulse within an existing framework so that something entirely new can be reborn. I am thrilled that the themes of dissolving human constructs and ancient, cyclical renewal resonated with you, and it means the world to me that the poem's stillness lingered with you after reading.❤️

Excellent work Allison, to blackout another’s poem, and still make it fully legible and accessible is no mean feat, you have done a great job here at stripping back the original, musicians do it all the time, and can often make it more popular, congratulations on deciphering Ferlinghetti’s work, and creating a well deserved POTD. Cheers David

Not sure I required much talent to find a poem inside someone else's words. Thank you for your kind words.❤️

Your poem is a striking piece of surrealist, apocalyptic work. You haved used vivid, dreamlike imagery to explore themes of destruction, rebirth, and the ultimate power of nature over human structures. Congratulations!

Yes ... I dont like the black out effect either ... it also allows some movement of words onto different lines when you remove the black.❤️
