Written: October 29, 2023 _______________________________________ Years gradually build up over time. I sit on my knees and feel sublime. Wounds need to heal and look for solace. As time goes on, insight retains a promise. Lessons to learn, and curses to face, What was once ignored, I now embrace. Often their stories never feel heard. For reasons of grief, blame, and absurd. But I consider the norms of a wider society. Seeking to grasp people's prior sobriety Scars may remain on the inside, unhealed. Contrastingly, I grew up feeling compelled. When tears arise and the strain is severe. Aspire that some people may adhere. Let them avoid being sentenced to silence. But let their murmurs resound into reliance. Stories were shared in a whispered tone. Vitality and tenacity appear in their groan. Scars and pain from wounds may persist. Endure when failing to show how to resist. Not hidden, voices will resonate and share. Their hardships, achievements, and despair So, do not switch a blind eye to the invisible. Let us hear their whispers—they are valuable. A peek into their souls, an echo of their size Their tales let us grip similarities in people's eyes. We feel their pain and applaud their success Scars serve as proof that we, too, can progress.

A deep and soulful poem, my dear friend. Words flow smoothly from your heart and soul. Sometimes the wisdom of age you bestow. We all need to learn to be more empathetic when other are willing to share their pain. It hard to open up and let others see our scars and pain. A FAV for my list. Thanks for sharing your meaningful poetry with us. A poet friend in Texas, Bill

Scars reminds us of all that we’ve overcome and been strong enough to look at but not dwell on, i really love that last line especially dear Sotto, you’ve written a very heartfelt poem with brilliant rhymes flowing with such profound wisdom: about life and more. I love the line “ sentenced to silence” that would be an excellent one for a prompt, so good! And i love how youv reminded that wounds need to heal and find solace, i agree. Youve written so well about scars! Pleasure reading you!

Sotto your poem is dripping with wisdom and it's charm is how engaging it is to read. You are like The Oracle of Poetry Soup! lol This has an uplifting end that I especially enjoyed knowing that we survive our scars and perhaps are better for them.

What a powerful poem, dearest Sotto! It addresses the emotional wounds and scars everyone bears. Wounds and scars do need to heal and are best done so through the insight you allude to. When stories are shared in whispered tones, my hope is that those near will have a compassionate ear and feel their pain. Your poem moved me and made me think of not just my own scars but those of the people I cherish. I just can't find the words to explain how relatable your words are for me. Am faving...Sara
