~~~~~~~~~~~~ When my spirit wills in the darkest part of the deep night, my mind awakes and comes to life. Dreams and the best laid plans of mice and men flood my senses sending thoughts careening through my head. Ideas appear branded before my eyes. each must be as individual sign, context clues for where I should go next. The paths for how to travel best- often send me down a windy road, sometimes only me and the moon alone. No matter how far the night entices me out, the shadows protect me as I move about. The rest of my thoughts, I scribble down with my best quill, knowing I’ll return to them when my spirit wills.
The essence of inspiration and the nighttime evolution of creativity are aptly captured in this poem. It uses the analogy of a winding road to show how the creative process frequently veers off course. The calming effects of contemplation and inspiration may be felt when one imagines themselves alone with the moon. Great work, my friend!
thanks for visiting, Hilda. There's something about that 'in between' state of mind...I create best when my conscious mind disappears. :-) Enjoy your evening, Sara
How I feel these lines, Sara. My nights are always short for lack of sleep, and my mind also comes fully awake, all sorts of things traveling in circles inside my head. Feeling like I'm the only one awake, "sometimes only me and the moon alone." is exactly how I feel. Protected in shadows is a good way to express that feeling. I loved your lines. Getting over the flu, or I'd have been reading and commenting on you and Bill more.
thank you, Lin, for such delightful and validating comments. I never get enough sleep. I wake up early (4:30 a.m.) because the house is quiet, and I can create...a beautiful part of my day. I'm glad you related to many of my lines. Sorry to hear you had that flu...it can be vicious...hope you continue to be on the mend. Appreciate you...have a great evening, hugs Sara
I think I’m allergic to both ink and graphite. All my most excellent ingenious ideas come to me when both are absent and my mind empties as soon as either is within reach. But do I keep pen and paper by my bed… do I heck! Thoroughly enjoyed, Sara
awww, Ink, your words sincerely made my day. I'm glad that reading my poems calm you even when you have a migraine. Such touching words. You're right. I work in overdrive most of the time--up early and stay up late...lack of sleep is 'normal' for me. Lines and stories come to me at the strangest times too. I have pen and paper by my nightstand and in my purse...just in case :-) Wishing you a pleasant evening, my kindred spirit and poetess friend, hugs,Sara
This poem beautifully captures the essence of inspiration and the creative process during the quiet depths of the night...describes the meandering journey of creativity, acknowledging that it often leads down a windy road. The image of being alone with the moon adds a sense of solitude and intimacy to the creative process.. and how you mind thinks.. nicely done my friend..
I think we've all been there. Sometimes disquieting thoughts keep us up, sometimes poetic inspiration, sometimes pleasant memories. You're quill is quite active. Inspiration must come easy and often for you. Awesome write
