When I Rise
When I rise
Early in the morning
My mind is spinning with thoughts
You ask me
"How can you be so energetic?"
I have no answer
I feel like I have always embraced the morning
When I go to bed
I fall asleep instantly
This gift has granted me my sanity
My mind feels fresh
Ideas flow like water from my soul
I am anxious to put pen to paper
Or should I say finger to screen
Paper seems a lifetime ago
I never know which path my mind will take
My mood and inspiration ever changing
Drawn to the past or present
Perhaps to a future I previously never imagined
Sometimes experiencing sadness, but never for long
Enough time spent there in earlier life
When I look back at the stages of my life
I feel I have lived many lives
Somehow through all of them, I have arrived here
The reconstituted me
Almost unrecognizable from the earlier evaporated self
Confidence where none previously existed
Joy replacing fear
No more pretending, I can be me
I don't have to wear a perpetual smile
I have permission to cry
Laughter now flows from deep within me
Love is no longer something to be protected from
My heart is vulnerable and safe
Now when I rise
I look at you and I am thankful
I was made to be with you
You know the past present and the potential of me
You smile
And I know it is going to be another good day
