When Grandpa Died
The light faded from the old man’s eyes
As he lay quietly on the white, linen sheet
His last words came a few hesitant sighs,
And then, his earthly journey was complete.
The doctor came to offer his kind solace
Saying, “I just don’t know why he expired,”
And we responded with a loving analysis
“He was very old, Doc, it was time he retired.”
We could not shed tears for a life well-lived
Though we will miss him as the years pass
And time will come when we have grieved
But Grandpa left this old world with class.
