When Grandpa Died

The light faded from the old man’s eyes As he lay quietly on the white, linen sheet His last words came a few hesitant sighs, And then, his earthly journey was complete. The doctor came to offer his kind solace Saying, “I just don’t know why he expired,” And we responded with a loving analysis “He was very old, Doc, it was time he retired.” We could not shed tears for a life well-lived Though we will miss him as the years pass And time will come when we have grieved But Grandpa left this old world with class. written November 29, 2021

We thought so, Shirley. He was such a dignified old fellow.

I do think this is what gets us "“He was very old, Doc, it was time he retired.” This should be POTD if you ask me.

Thanks, Andrea. It is as accurate a picture of his death as I could pen. He was in his mid-nineties. He was Deb's beloved grandfather.

For a poem about death, it had a comfortable feel. You made it real, but not a big deal. I got to stop. Bill
