Wanderer Above the Sea of Fog Painting By Friedrich

Inspired by: Wanderer above the Sea of Fog Painting by Caspar David Friedrich (Viewing painting will help make sense of poem) There is no view of which to speak Do I concede to this defeat The crushing fact closes my throat I must reimagine, keep my morale afloat Did I come here for the aspect Or just seeking greater introspect Whilst I toiled, I shed inner turmoil It did not travel with me, so cannot spoil This moment, at the top My personal zenith, this is not There is the World still there for me Though the vastness of this foggy sea Teases with details hardly there I inhale, breathe in the air Through the clouds As fog enshrouds I do not despair Just stand and stare At nothingness it seems Yet I see untold slowly emerging dreams Into who I am The uncharted man Your Choice Again Poetry Contest Sponsored by: Brian Strand 1st place

This is high praise considering my experience of poetry writing being 3 months. I think I might just have a surplus of emotions :) thank you for your wonderful comment x

"Yet I see untold slowly emerging dreams/ Into who I am/ The uncharted man." The wanderer as he stands on the zenith sees a sea of fog before him. It is a moment of a dream scape opening before him. Great description of the painting, Dilly. A sure winner.

Wanderer, sea of fog, uncharted man - love your words and the way you describe the effect the painting has had on your imagination. I really didn’t need to look up the painting ( glad I did though) because your words describe the scene and more. Thank you for showing us this - I love it !

What about 'keep my morale afloat' does that work better do you think?

Yes, I play around with word meanings and quite often redraft. Would connote fit rather than denote ? Choices, choices and often fine margins,

Thank you Peter, I appreciate the high praise. I'm beginning to come around to the idea of editting and redrafting. Although I'm not sure the word 'denote' is correctly used?
