Visions of Grandeur
With visions of grandeur and a heart full of hopes,
she ventured out into the big world;
Without the necessities or learning the ropes -
she was a wild-eyed and naïve little girl.
She entered the city carefree and pure,
with visions of grandeur and a heart full of hopes.
Success was on the horizon; of that she was sure,
before hunger and desperation started to grope.
“Return to Sender” was written on the envelope,
stuffed with unfulfilled expectations from her past;
With visions of grandeur and a heart full of hopes,
which she clung onto until the very last.
Twenty years older and worn out in defeat,
intoxicated by the alcohol that helps her to cope;
She frowns at the young girl, new to the street
with visions of grandeur and a heart full of hopes.
