Visible Man

You want to cry quietly so no one will hear The Visible Man wants to disappear Although you walk with purpose wear clothes like a guy inside you feel like a woman and don’t understand why No it’s not some accident that you find yourself here You’ve never been the person that you see in the mirror So you start to dress different at first just when you’re alone Raising you’re voice an octave to strike the right tone You build up your courage putting on makeup and hair A bra and panties and bind yourself down there The right dress and stockings matching shoes and a bag Others might think it’s pretend that you’re just some fellow in drag But it’s not that simple your inside they can’t see If you don’t change on the outside You’ll simply cease to be So you search for courage to yourself you must be true Others who have gone before you show you what to do. Yes the Visible Man took years to erase Chiseled features gone now a curved body, soft face You now can smile at yourself when You gaze in the mirror The invisible woman you needed to be has finally joined you here. My wife and I watched a documentary about people going through transition. This piece was rattling in my head when I woke up. We have a friend who’s son is going through this process. I can only imagine how difficult it is for all involved.

Very thoughtful piece. I feel for the trans community. This is a great piece that sheds light on identity issues they go through. Thanks for your visit to my poem. Friendship does need nurturing, but true friends pick up where they left off... no matter the circumstances. I'm in it for the long haul.

This is a powerful, first-rate account of a real-life process. It is touching, moving, and rich with compassion. My wife and I never imagined that one of our grandsons would change genders. Thank you for composing it and posting it.

I am so glad that I'm following your poetry today! This is a powerful story of coming out, and you do it without telling the reader, you let them in on the experience and the process. Coming out is a huge part of someone's life! Beautifully written, Rick!

Thanks again J.R. We have a friend who’s son has transitioned and they have accepted and supported her. For many that is not the case.

I'm old now and have learned it's not for me to judge. No human can put a limit on God's love and mercy. How hypocritical it would be for me to judge and then ask God for a blessing.

As all in any circumstances, the journey to one's inner self is not an easy one, but: once achieved that journey is just so worthwhile, a lovely thoughtful write Richard, all the best to you and the missus for the New Year . . . : )

Slowly but surely, there is acceptance of this--too bad ignorance of society causes them much grief. Kudos for writing this poem, Richard.

Thank you for writing this one, Richard. I know children who are trans, and they do not have it easy. Many are living on the street or on friend's couches because their parents were not accepting, not realizing God does not make mistakes. This is how they are supposed to be.

I read a story about a tough paratrooper who went through that, he went off into the wilds to regain his 'manhood' sadly for him it did not work and he eventually became what he should have been, a woman. Well written Richard. Tom

Thanks for being the first to comment on this piece. I know for some it will be a controversial write. I don’t think people would choose this path as it would be unimaginably difficult.
