The gods sentenced Narcissus to a life without human love. He fell in love with his own reflection in a pool of water and died hungering for its response. Like Narcissus, narcissists only "love" themselves as reflected in the eyes of others. Crossing that fine line between respecting oneself into 'loving oneself' is dangerous, because one becomes a carnivorous beast devouring all hopes and dreams. A Haiku of great depth dearest friend and a fave for me....Maria xxx

Well, my dearest Anne-Lise , nobody stops you or anybody else to have dreams! I am talking about vain people whose vanity destroys their lives thus destroy their hopes and dreams for to feed their vanity! If one is not vain then its up to him to chase his dreams! Thank you! Hugs

To have a high esteem of oneself, that's positive and beneficial and helps build a balanced personality.. But to have an over self admiration that's a negative characteristic that harms the soul badly.. Vanity is a blind trait that enslaves the human soul, it kills insight and turns off the light of heart..Your imagery is powerful, the metaphor perfectly captures your vision! Vanity is a "wolf that devours the soul along with hopes and dreams" A wonderful profound Haiku! Stay safe dear Demetrios
