Nine wild mustangs canter across the prairie Old West symbols of animals on free range Known to them is only one adversary -- Pounding hooves fade into history’s pages Magnificent specie appears unwary Victim of habitat infringement and change Government roundups so unnecessary Protection not offered, to the contrary Mustangs captured and sold for slaughter’s exchange Deaths of entire herds appear arbitrary -- Pounding hooves fade into history’s pages *February 26, 2019

How would early America have prospered so well without this beloved and useful animal. I hate to hear of their slaughter. These wild horses deserve to roam free. It is so sad Carolyn. Beautifully expressed. xxoo

The plight of wild horses is so heartbreaking, so well expressed here, let's hope those pounding hooves never completely fade!

When I went to a ranch in Arizona, I was lucky enough to ride a horse from the Mustang Adoption Program. Unfortunately, many others of "Misty's" ilk were being slaughtered. Thanks for reading, Jim!

G'day Carolyn … same thing here with the brumbies. The high country slaughter and northern Australia horses are destined for the pet food industry. They are victims of their own success - thanks Carolyn - Lindsay
