Valentine's Day Humbug

Love’s better when you’re a beginner.
On Valentine’s Day, you’re a winner.
For the old married gal
It’s a day usual.
And you’re lucky to get a free dinner!

Very funny! I like to present my valentine a different gift for seven days. The seventh day I give her the gift I believe will touch her the most. The trick is to pay attention to what she likes all year long and then surprise her with that special gift she never thought you'd remember and always throw in a gift you love.

That is so true that we are lucky to get a dinner out of the day. This year I got a surprise Al actually bought me a heart full of chocolates after 38 years of marriage. Wow. This poem said it and these men need to get the hint. phyl

Congratulations on your win, Andrea. You had used "alot" in a comment on my Taxed to the Hilt poem. I see this often and looked it up on Grammar Monster because so many people use it. Here's what the "monster" said: "The word alot does not exist." Another site said it was the illiterate version of "a lot." Where I live, people spell a lot correctly, but I see a lot of poets here using "alot." Best to you, Diane

LOL You're lucky IF you get a free dinner, Andrea. Some men just don't recognize this holiday at all. Cute entry for Francine's contest. Love, Carolyn I posted a limerick on a plesiosaurus and was hoping you'd check the meter. If it's not right, I'll just withdraw another one from Deb's contest. Thanks, Carolyn

This poem put a smile on my face and a nod of the head. It is a shame how love subsides for some. I am an italian and a poet and a romantic. I usually giv emy wife a card and a rose on valentines day. After 36 years we are still lovers; quiet lovers; but still lovers. I wish you well in the contest and thanks for reading my work., Jancarl
