Valentine's Day Cynic

The usual tat overflows on the shelves Such items we’d never buy for ourselves Chocolate hearts wrapped in shiny red plastic At a seven pounds each the prices are drastic! A fluffy teddy bear that’s clutching a heart It reads ‘Darling I love you, we’ll never part’ Sexy underwear that’s so uncomfy to wear With so little fabric you’re practically bare! Deep in his wallet a man has to delve For single red roses or bouquets of twelve The shop keepers know that men have to buy So on Valentine's Day the price goes sky high The price of love escalates just on one day.... I'm a Valentine's cynic that's all I will say! Inspired after seeing half price Valentine's 'tat' in the shops today! 2/17/18

Yeah, me, too. Clever and enjoyable. Next, I believe is Mother's Day - all for Hallmark Corporation. I've never been aptly prepared for these same year calendar events, but did better when I worked full time and then it was another stresser on the to-do list. I enjoyed this. Hugs ... CayCay (Tim and I both forgot our 5th anniversary and that's the one we'd mark, if we were markers!)

Indeedy, Jan, I object to paying £25 for half a dozen red roses , when I can get an ironing board cover for £7.99. Viv x

Hi Jan, This piece was spot on. The prices for Valentine Day gifts ( or any other holiday)are ridiculous. Well done:-) Alexis

Yes, greed goes sky high! Taking advantage especially of the guys! Like he should take one flower out of the bouquet and say how much for this one ;) I’m a fan merely because I met my husband on the day. I was fresh out of Navy boot camp. So it’s an anniversary.

So true Jan , we've scaled down over the years, we have a nice meal , but then we do most nights. Love is all year not one day. Tom

Totally agree with you Tom. I saw a heap of enormous teddy bears clutching heart pillows and that gave me the idea. We never celebrate but I did propose to hubby on Valentine's day ... silly sod said yes! :-) hugs Jan xx
