Two Pair of Shoes
I met a young lady in our local bar
She was a beauty as most of them are
When closin' time came we walked arm in arm
To my old pickup just fresh off the farm
I drove to her place not far from the square
She said it was quiet and peaceful there
She went to change while I watched the news
I saw under her bed two pair of shoes
My eyes flashed forward toward my own fate
The shoes were fourteens and I wore an eight
I left there that night a fear in my heart
Praying out loud that my pickup would start
I dream sometime of the beauty I'd seen
And two pair of shoes that said size fourteen
