True To Heart, An Old Poet's Solemn Vow

True To Heart, An Old Poet's Solemn Vow If I should but write somber thoughts in old age Why not? Not much depth writing in newest rage. If my many poetry books teach to see they in sweet truth set my old, yearning heart free! Twas' clear winter, cold stars upon my head shone I felt chilling fists of cold, right down the bone. Lead weights attached so firmly to rigid feet Tasty word soups in puddles, no spoon to eat! Halt! Cried the ever vigilant guard above you must not stray off path, for we govern love. In poetic words screamed, "hell no, not from me" I walk well lit path, knowing I am free! Then bold shot fired, burst old poet's aching heart Stand on true principle, life one may depart! Robert J.
