Entombed

Alone in the dark, my flashlight shuts down and I feel my way through ebony's tactile darkness. A chill seeps into my bones; sending a shiver up my spine as scary thoughts occupy my mind. And an emptiness hollows out my soul; cutting lose, my anchor of reality. Fear drips from my sweaty pores, pooling in my heart as hope drowns. Feeling forsaken, and abandoned to my tears, solitude is oppressive and all-consuming. Trapped, I'm entombed in the bowels of a collapsed cave, and my heart cries out for the faintest glimmer of light. Slave to my imagination, I see the face of evil lurking in the shadows. And it shape-shifts amid the gloom, instantly paralyzing reason. I feel strangled, as a compressive blackness smothers me, and I faint into oblivion.

I could feel the terror of your intriguing and deep write vibrantly expressed. Your poem strikes at the heart of our primal fear of the dark, oh, and of being buried alive! Terrifying and excellent. Congratulations on your wonderful win.. ~Susan
