Time Out

Time Out! Beads of sweat dripping from a newfound mustache steadily I walk trying to shrink away the years from this unwieldy body that cries with every step. Why now? Why such devotion? The Olympics I do not seek my time on earth is halfway done. Swimming I like, the buoyancy suits my aging bones, and our morning walks with the family dog fill me with relaxing joy, but the treadmill! Please, stop this nonsense! Spring I thought was my friend but with you a tormenter is no end; who knew turning fifty would be the end of you and me?

This is powerful. Time out but not for you and me!

I believe that the treadmill is one of the seven levels of hell!! Followed by the stationary bicycle. Good one....thanks for the chuckle at my own expense...

You are so right John, it's the treadmill of hell. It's like Sisyphus being forced to roll this huge boulder up a hill knowing all along it would roll right back to hit him. So much effort for what in the end?

Getting older is the only way to... stay alive dear, Anne-Lise so enjoy it! A wonderfully profound poem with messages so sound! A 7!

Thank you so very much for your kind comment and rating Demetrios. Yes, and since it's the only way, we should rejoice in the moment and even though we need to stay fit and healthy, we also need to listen when our body says 'enough':)

Believe it or not, but I can relate to this!!! Maybe that's a consolation? That someone so much younger can feel the same way :)

What a kind thought Darren but know that I would never find solace in knowing that someone as young as you or my older daughter for that matter, who is affected with bouts of arthritis at 21, are in pain. Wishing you a pain free day:)

Thank you so much for your cheerful comments Maureen. No, this is not entered in the contest, but the contest inspired the end of the poem:)

Merely 50; barely out of the teen years, LOL! I say Apple Cider Vinegar morning and evening - in warm glasses of water - will help. I am a few years ahead, but ACV tastes "nasty." Loved how you told this "new" story of the poet's life, with Spring seemingly disappointing in one way! I have to say - 7. Shalom, AD.

Anil, you are so very kind. I started writing this poem a few years back and never finished it until recently. Now I'm nearing my sixties, and very happily so:)

It might feel like the end but it is just the beginning.

Oh trust me Tim, it does feel like the beginning. I retired recently and I enjoy every minute of my newfound freedom:)

Good Morning Anne-Marie. I'll say time out. But wait, don't forget to make your appointment for a colonoscopy. (funny but true at the same time) Honestly. Your thoughts of aging are marvelous and I enjoyed how you incorporated Spring with your words. Well done entirely. Happy Birthday but I don't know when.

Good afternoon Lisa. Thank you so much for your kind thoughts and comments. I've been pushing the colonoscopy off for years now. Maybe in my upcoming sixties I'll take it seriously. I saw the contest (which I didn't enter) about turning 50, and I had this little poem sitting here unfinished, and it just inspired me to give it the last touch:)

Consider me already there, Mike. I wrote this poem in my early 50's and never bothered to finish until a few days ago.:)

I know this feeling well, every weekend I am reminded that spring was once my friend, but not so much anymore. :) Nicely done Anne Marie

Thank you Chris. I take it you have a heavy load on the weekend, or perhaps you go on long hikes. Whatever it is, remember to listen to the aches and pains if they come along, and give them a break:)
