This Aint So Grand Son
THIS AIN’T SO GRAND, SON
This man said “even the evenings will soon be sunny
The moon wouldst no longer rule the sky
And soon we’ll all know why”
The daytime’s violence will vie with virtuosity
And the sky will meet the tops of our heads
I fear what the man said about ever brightness being nigh and the sky no longer
high
And soon we’ll all know why
See that gorilla who swaggers along?
Soon he’ll be on top of the food chain
Those same great apes will learn to lie
And soon we’ll all know why
There will be a day when every tree bears fruit
And almost everything seen you can eat
Vanity and insanity will disappear
When all the laws of logic will no longer apply
And soon we’ll all know why
Everything will be blessed by the bluest of skies all the time
And words once penned awry will begin to rhyme
And then suddenly upon one sodden ‘morrow
Frigid it be, no heat on earth
three decades from now the sun will die
And our grandchildren will know precisely why
