The Wall
"I need you" flitted through his mind.
He longed to croon her name,
as he had done so many times
back when she felt the same.
"I want you"--whispered to her back--
she surely didn't hear.
If she awoke would she respond?
Would she want him so near?
"I love you," said aloud to her,
did not invade her dreams.
She failed to move into his arms.
She didn't hear, it seems.
She mourned her loss of love for him
through passing of the years.
Pretending sleep, she rested on
her pillow wet with tears.
