the sun was late this morning

The sun was late this morning Or was I early At any rate I waited Tapping my fingers Impatiently. The appointment Requested I show up 20 minutes early To register My shadow. The receptionist Told me “the sun is running A bit behind schedule” Please be patient. My shadow grumbles It hates these appointments.

John, This is a clever and humorous poem with a surprising twist! The opening lines create a sense of anticipation and then subvert expectations with the revelation of your "shadow" being the one waiting. The imagery of the receptionist explaining the sun's delay adds to the humor, and the final line perfectly captures the grumpiness of shadows who dislike appointments. This really made me smile! - Blessings, Daniel

This poem hits home. I have anxiety about being late. There are better places to be than in a waiting room. I liked how your shadow was substituted for yourself. It said to me that there is little recognition on arrival. Thank you for a timely poem that realizes the importance of time.

I’m digesting…what are you registering for? A grumbling shadow~that’s a very conceptual image.
