The Story of your Stuff Contest

A decision is made, I want nothing nice I'll have this for now, it'll surely suffice Prized possessions being taken leaves me afraid I want nothing nice, a decision is made No one can hurt me, it can be prevented Let no one in, raise my defences I don't want to get my hopes up you see It can be prevented, no one can hurt me There's something I treasure, if the light hits right And I'm all in the moment, forget all my fight I store up the moments, by them my worth measure If the light hits right, there's something I treasure I have no story of stuff, remember my name I have hopes in a basket, with just self to blame To feel that I count, for me that's enough Remember my name, I have no story of stuff

Rhyme and reason are woven together. You certainly mastered the quatrain style.

An immaterial girl in a material world Dilly Dally, the reader will remember your name, how can they not, you’re all about light and shade, I don’t like getting my hopes up either, makes reality easier to deal with, although I do hope you have a winner here with this humble little piece, cheers David

Thanks David - sometimes these early writes lead to other ideas forming, so I'll see whether something else occurs. I'm not attached to much stuff or overly sentimental either. I might have to imagine what I might take to a desert island (probably this hammock I try never to leave!) - never thought I'd hear you quote Madonna :) (I took it as a "it's immaterial" girl - lol)

This need to be safe is understandable during these times. But the puzzle is if one holds a fist tight how can one give or receive? Your poem is engaging and it makes me think. Was it for contest? Still well done!

Thanks Karen, it is for Jaymee's contest, but I might give it more thought before the deadline. Lots to ponder

Such an insight into our times and the fears we can (and do) have. It gives me shivers

Thank you for your comment Chetta, it feels more like times of acquisition than make do - sorry for the shivers x
