Have to ponder this one Bill. Why did Paul Simon have to do this to us?

Nice take on that awesome song. When Paul wrote it I'm sure he never imagined it would become a phenomenon and that its message would become the subject of many speculative debates

True, Tom, he probably just thought it sounded cool. We never know what will become of the words we speak and the things we do in this life or how they will affect others after we're gone. Thanks for the visit and comment. Bill

Dear Bill, The poem is thought-provoking! The layout with spacing emphasizes the transition, and the line "containing the sounds of silence" is truly insightful. It makes you listen to silence differently. Great work! I loved Simon and Garfunkle. - Blessings, Daniel

Some thought-provoking lyrics in some of their songs for sure, Daniel. They're some quality messages in the lyrics back then and in some of those folk songs of John Denver and the like. Thanks for the comment, my friend. Bill

Dear friend Bill, An eloquent title and poem subject that explores the shift from silence to sound, incorporating the essence of silence within its composition. Excellent work.

One of my favourite songs is ‘The Sound of Silence’ - Bill, your Monoku words are superb. Nothing says as much as what silence does… Beryl

A great song, Bill. Anything but silent and hushed is the version by Disturbed. It’s powerfully sung. Take a listen.

Right now, for just a little while, there is the sound of silence in my home, I am almost positive the phone will ring again soon. We have a lot of children and grandkids, happily we're still pretty popular with them, they bless us so much with phone calls and visits :) <3 The sound of between the sound of conversation, I never thought about it before. I love Simon and Garfunkel; the Sound of Silence is a favorite. Thanks for reminding me of it, and now it's playing in my mind :)

Sounds little you have a lot of happy sounds in your life. Kudos to you and your relationship with both kids and grandkids, B.J. This Simon and Garfunkel song has always taken me to a deeper place where I thought about things in a different way. I'm glad you like the poem, my friend. Have a pleasant week! Bill

An interesting thought. The song and poem great ponderings! Silence has a sound all its own as does a tree that falls in a forest, when no one (seemingly) is there to hear it. I also enjoyed reading Duke’s comment below.

Bill, I wonder how many times we get to examine that vision before we actually take appropriate action. This song was thematic in "The Graduate" and there seemed to be a lot of poor communications and thinking on the part of Benjamin played by Dustin Hoffman. Funny that you just posted this quote as I was thinking about the film earlier today when a friend of his family in the film whispered the one word, "Plastics." I'm being OCD, but you raise an interesting question about our thinking.

Very synchronistic thinking, Duke. I really like the music and this particular song from "The Graduate". They're so many different levels to consider when we think about things. It's overwhelming at times. It makes me feel like I'm missing the iceberg because I'm focused on its tip. Your comment has given me something else to ponder. Thanks for your you meaningful comments, Duke. I appreciate your thoughts in your comments and poetry. Bill
