The Sound of His Breathing

Sorting through the worries in my head Furious with the creaking of the bed I toss and I turn And I yearn and yearn For answers to the questions of life Wondering why I can’t be a good wife And I hear his heavy breathing… Rhythmic and slow And I know I know… He is deep in his sleep And I just want to weep I close my eyes tight Hoping all will be right My heart whispers a prayer To God who’s always there “God…life is a mystery Sometimes it’s beyond me Where will it end? What’s behind the bend? Please grant this one plea Please….listen to me… When my heart’s filled with dread As I lie on my bed Lord, make my world right Forever and always…. Let me hear the sound of his Breathing at night!"

God will always show us what we need to see; that's what this poem tells me. Awesome one. The first stanza is heart-wrenching. I can feel your pain. Wonderful one! Always, Laura

My hubby doesn't share my passion for poetry. I told him I won with a poem written about him. He gave me some compliment after I read it, but I wish he'd have been more enthused. Oh well...Thanks for reading me again, Laura. Very sweet of you. Hugs

I prefer a different kind of heavy breathing! Sorry I couldn't resist *lol* . The poem is perfect and moving, there is a comfort in hearing the rhythmic breath of a loved one.

I have thought these thoughts myself when my husband snores. I never complain as I would hate to hear silence there instead and him be gone. He had open heart surgury and the fear of losing him forever was more frightening than a bit of snoring....after rambling on I wanted to congratulate you for your win. SuZ

Thankyou Eileen: For the long life wishes. Ha ha I almost wondered about the breathing vs snoring. You are right ... more poetic .

Thanks every so much, Suzanne! So sweet of you to share your thoughts and fears with me. Yes...we have had some scares with my husband, but of another nature, and I am mindful of what my life would be without him. I wish your hubby long life! :)

Thanks, Carrie...yes...having to see my Mom continuously deteriorate due to MS while growing up, I've become a hypochondriac of sorts and often I'm tormented with thoughts of death and dying. This poem is very true to life.
