The Singing Spring
Their voices were mute for many months
Now the spring birds are singing in joyous chorus
Awakening the nature from the deep frozen slumber
As all the roses and daffodils bloom in the garden.
After the winter the cheery robins return flying low
In the rippling breeze heralding the sparkling spring
Twittering flute-tuned cadence of the sunburst spectrum
That trickles through foliage of the thicket by the brook.
Flying from the frayed edge of the departing winter
Return the triumphant sparrows with their blithe songs
The scarlet wings of cardinals glow like the patina of rose
As the avian music touches the warbling soul of spring.
When all the birds hop on the stretched boughs
Of the flourishing trees outside my open window
And croon the sunrise songs sailing in the dawn air
I thank God for gifting me another singing spring.
