The Schizophrenia of Sin

People wonder How “professed” Christians Do the things they do Say the things they say Write the things they write It’s not RIGHT! True! We have to “walk the talk” But perfection is not attainable Holiness is misunderstood There is no state of sinlessness Holiness connotes wholeness Being wholly for someone Belonging to Someone Having the heart and mind of Christ... We are disappointed when Christians SIN We call them hypocrites What is sin? Sin is the breaking of a heart Rather than the breaking of a law Jesus said: “If you love me, keep my commandments” The Ten Commandments are nothing more than….. A revelation of the character of God A peek into what is important to Him When we “break” one of these It shows that there is something wrong In the relationship Is any marriage PERFECT? No…married couples fight Disappoint one another Hurt one another But the commitment is there Bible writers compare our relationship with God To a marriage…. That is where the holiness comes in We make a vow to be WHOLLY committed to God Having taken the vow…. Will you stumble? YES! Will you fall? YES! Will you break the heart of God? YES! Will he forgive you? YES! YES! YES! Ephesians 5: 25 – 27 Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other blemish, but holy and blameless. If we were sinless, why would Jesus need to WASH US? Apostle Paul, my favorite author said The good he wants to do He doesn't do and what he DOESN'T want to do, THAT he does! Is that schizophrenia or what? The schizophrenia of sin Double personality The beauty and the beast But God knows He understands how hard it is He remembers that “we are dust” In other words: He cuts us some slack He works on us Jesus washes us when He forgives us He covers us with His goodness His “Robe of Righteousness” His “right doing” becomes our “right doing” That doesn't give us license to “sin” That gives us incentive to thank Him For that robe Which cost Him His life Jesus longs for us to be holy Wholly His That's why we bear His name: Christian “Holiness is wholeness for God; it is the entire surrender of heart and life to the indwelling of the principles of heaven. All Jesus asks is that we 'be absolutely and completely for Him in this world as He is for us in the presence of God.’” DA Eileen Manassian Ghali

Hi Richard When Christ came it said the laws were written on our hearts. Even if we had never read the scriptures we are aware when we break God's commandments. Fortunate for us our sin or lack of sin does not determine our salvation. Knowing and loving Christ does change our motivation and we do wish to please the one we are in relationship with. We can not attain perfection untill he makes it possible. Great write Eileen! lots to think about here.

The good news? He loves to reward us: I John 5: 12- And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him. (NIV....my fav version!) :) Thanks for the lovely post, Richard. I'm SO glad that you read through this and confirmed my beliefs. :)

Yes....He who has the Son..has life! (1 John 5:12). Not...he who is perfect...He who is sinless...He/she who has Jesus as Savior. Pleasing Him SHOULD be top priority. That comes naturally if the relationship is what it should be, and as all good relationships...it takes an investment of time and affection...

:) Are we on the same page or what?????? Yes, Richard...He did write them on the tablets of our hearts...There is a verse that says He has revealed Himself to us even through nature so that man is without excuse. He has given us all things possible to know Him.

I too am a Christian Eileen and I got it. Christians aren't holier than thou, though some act like it, but rather we've been given the gift to be cleansed of our sins -and it's the same gift all of mankind was offered if they just accept it by accepting Him who paid the price for all of us. I thought your prose was great -preach on! MC

I consider myself a christian, though not over religious but I see the ten commandments as being a guide to what's expected of human society, in as much as what is right and what is wrong. What say you to that Aunie? Take care, Richard

A guide is good, Richard....some compare it to a mirror. Some think the Ten Commandments were done away with at the Cross and now we live in grace. I really don't see how how guidelines can be subject to change. Jesus said he come to fulfill the law and that not one word should be removed from it. Auntie has spoke....did I make any sense, Richard? It's 5:38 am...If I didn't, blame it on that! ;)

:( Oh...sin is older than this world, PD...It started up in heaven in the heart of the finest angel...but that's another story! ;) Yes...we are all in the same boat. We all got pushed into the ocean of sin, but we don't have to drown in it. God sent us a life saver...Jesus Christ! :) Hugs!

Some conversations I've had with a friend here. :) I preached on this topic once. I got out the sermon and read over some of the things I'd written. Did a power point on it too. I hope I was clear on what I think about the matter. Thanks for the visit, PD.... :)
