Daphne

In quiet anticipation, Daphne carefully sewed tiny outfits of love for her soon to be child. With her soft braided hair and loose, faded clothes Daphne sung lullabies, then stared off for awhile. When her due date came, we wished Daphne well for our small sewing circle was caring and kind Daphne looked embarrassed, but was happy to tell that she'd show us her baby at just the right time. About a month later, sweet Daphne appeared gently cradling her sleeping, angelic little girl With a hushed adoration, we all drew near her and beheld the most beautiful baby in the world. When the ladies dispersed, I asked Daphne if I could hold her new baby, I'd hold her with care with a brief hesitation, she said, "Just a short while" her perfect, silicone baby was lighter than air. Thanks, Maureen. I wanted it to be a bit creepy and mysterious:)

Interesting write, Laura. For some reason, my first interpretation was that *Daphne* was actually a doll (the braided hair / faded clothes line pointed me in this direction). Then I thought it was a real baby that she'd lost... Work's on several levels. Well written! Regards, John.

Laura, this is a little mind twister of a poem. Each time I returned to it I pondered another interpretation. Thanks for entering the contest

I really liked this, Laura. It makes me wonder if she was simply crazy all that time or if she sadly lost the baby!!

Thanks for stopping by with your comments, Andrea. Yes, it's a little sad and creepy that people need these folds, but who am I to judge their needs.

Wow Laura! Sadly this happens. I guess people get comfort however they can, even if they have to pretend. Your entry should do really well Laura. It is very touching.#7. ; )

Thanks for commenting, Connie. Those magazine ads to buy these realistic babies always creeped me out...so sad some really need this for comfort.
