The Names of Jesus - Hymn Premiere Contest Winner

“Jesus, the name that charms our fears that bids our sorrows cease.” O For a Thousand Tongues to Sing lyrics by Charles Wesley, music by Carl Glazier. Immanuel, we praise your name The God who calms our fears Redeemer of our sin and shame Sweet music to our ears. All-knowing Counselor in grief The One who dries our tears A loving Lord, our blest relief Sweet music to our ears. The Light, the Truth shows us the way Our path Grace kindly clears Our Master’s goal: trust and obey Sweet music to our ears. Oh! Jesus, hallowed name we praise Our Savior through the years A Prophet, Priest and King we raise Sweet music to our ears. Reason, this was such a delight to read today! You wrote in the vein of Charles Wesley so well; rhymes, meter and all! I loved all the lines, but especially "Priest, Prophet, King of Kings we raise". I commend and congratulate you for winning top spot in this contest. If you have written other hymns I would enjoy reading them ~ John

Yes, I remember that one. It was my favorite one to sing of all the 'Chariots of Fire' entries. You have a real gift, my friend!

Thank you, John. I am glad for your careful review and happy for the read. The only other hymn I've done recently is God's Righteous Right Hand to the tune of Chariots of Fire. You commented on it back in August.

Wow! thank you Kim for a first placement in your contest. Being on the music team at our church, I enjoyed the opportunity to write words to a familiar hymn and to honor the work of a great hymnwriter, Charles Wesley.
