The Longest Night
No doubt in his heart
no doubt in his mind
this is the longest night
of his entire life
for time stood still
when He looked into his eyes
and caught his lies.
To have denied his Lord
to have denied his faith
the pain of his guilt
will be surpassed only
by the painful agony
of the impending death
of Christ.
Peter replied, “Man, I don’t know what you’re talking about!” Just as he was speaking, the rooster crowed. The Lord turned and looked straight at Peter. Then Peter remembered the word the Lord had spoken to him: “Before the rooster crows today, you will disown me three times.” And he went outside and wept bitterly.
