The Lonely Weed- POTD

On a dew kissed morning,
while walking through the country path,
I chanced upon an unpretentious weed
peeping out of the crannied stone ledge with a flower
a lavender blossom with bright yellow stamens
around her navel announcing the mirth
that breathes itself in bloom.

Though lonely, she was a symbol of resilience
In many eyes an intruder, but she could put to shame,
her garden cousins, stationed high-
a testament to love, showing life’s art.
Away from mortal gaze, she survives,
to cheer hearts and waft a mild fragrance.

She nods her head in breeze
as if to invite the footloose ramblers
who might chance to pass that way
to feast on her beauty and taste her fragrance,
before she falls down dead in that wilderness
in another day’s time,

unnoticed, untouched, unsung!

A lovely and sad dedication to this "lonely weed" that will eventually wither away "unnoticed, untouched, unsung" ~ Congratulations for the p.o.t.d. award, Valsa. // paul

My congrats for the POTD. I haven't been writing much these days. An enjoyable tribute to a weed. We have plenty of them in Malta.

I didn't see this until today, so congrats. It is indeed worthy of POTD and I love it when that happens, will probably sit high in the contest, too. Though whenever I get one, I do not get the other - for some reason that's just my karma, you need not worry. I enjoyed the depth and as always with you, I enjoyed your smooth delivery.

Always remembering that ' beauty is in the eye of the beholder. ' Some see a lonely weed, others see beauty, a delicate moment to embrace. Your thoughts are tender and they caress gently around me and my heart. Congratulations Valsa, on Poem of the Day. Many wonderful blessings to you. : ) Hugs, Brandy

Yes, dear Brandy, beauty is an individual perception. It varies from person to person. Some see beauty in things where others can't. As ever, your comment has made me happy. Thanks a lot dear friend.

Hard fought the battle of one lonely seed to take root where it wasn’t meant to be. Sunlight and rain reach in the tiniest places. Congratulations on potd, Valsa.

Yes Lin, some times it is a hard struggle to strike root in an unwanted place. Yet when favorable factors arrive, it may bloom to the wonder of others. Thank you so much for your insightful comment.

Yes, we name them. Who are we to judge others. Some weeds are prettier than garden plants. Thanks Joe for your thoughtful comment.
